Q: How do I uninstall photos for mac?

Can't say I am interested in using this program. When I plug an SD card into my iMac via the SD slot or plug in my CF Card reader to import images to my iMac, photos for mac auto opens and wants me to import said content into its library. So I suppose two questions. A) how do I uninstall photos for mac? B) If this is not possible how do I turn off auto prompt to import content every time I mount a disc? First world problem but seriously efs up work flow.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), null

I know. It just felt better letting it all out.

I'm not interested in Iphoto either. I just want Photos wiped off my computer. I can manage just fine with folders.

    But thanks for the tip

Then use Image Capture, no database just imports the pics and puts them in a folder of your choice.

Oh yes imagecapture is my friend and I'm perfectly content using only this.

But then how do I wipe Photos off my computer. I just don't want this  program interfering for no reason with my system and need to erase all traces of it.

It does not 'interfere' with anything if you don't use it. And as it is a component of OS X itself you should not delete its. Just ignore it.

See my earlier post on this thread for sign of the contrary.

I said that you "should" not delete, but you can do whatever you want. It's your stuff.

    Right, thanks for the advice.

Anyone knows if there's a thread where some kind of Mac buff can take a look at some of my sysdiagnose file or something like that. even though I've deleted all un-necessary app and tried to purge my system of any interference, I think there's really something wrong with my OS (between dysplaypolicyd permission broken, coreaudiod bugging out, Icloud and XPC related processes going bersek, weird identification errors etc...).

I've seen some good souls taking a look at other's here and there but i'm not sure if there's a particular thread for that or user.

    Thanks

It doesn't interfere with the system if you don't use it and don't have a Photos Library.  Do the following:

1 - remove Photos from the Dock.

2 - delete any Photos library you may have created.

3 - with iPhoto open connect a mobile device and launch Image Capture.

4 - click on the mobile device in Image Capture.

5 - at the bottom left corner of the screen select either No application or iPhoto in the menu.

    Image Capture001.jpg

    6 - close Image Capture

    7 - ignore Photos

    Thanks

I have no idea what a 'sysdiagnose' file is but if you decide to delete parts of the OS you shouldn't be surprised when bad things happen. Personally I would suggest you reinstall the OS to attempt to get it back to a working state undoing any 'cleanup' you think you have done.

If you want help, create your own thread detailing the specify steps you took to remove things from the OS & what symptoms you have - they may be normal if you have purged the wrong files.

Deleting components of the system is a sure fire way to really mess-up your Mac.  I strongly suggest you Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system.  Then move Photos out of the Dock, ignore it and don't try to delete any system components again.

Thanks guys. I have no intention of removing something that I hear is part of the system, hence my trying to find a fix here.

I will try Toad's first suggestion before I resort to reinstalling the OS.  I upgraded from a buggy Maverick and it gave me lots of errors on install. It seems my drive is partitioned strangely and I have to investigate more (although my expertise in this field is scarce). I remember trying to clean install back with Maverick via wifi and for some reason it requires a way better connection than usual (while my current one is pretty good for most things), an issue I'm not alone having apparently, so if OS cannot be booted from a partition on my drive and I have to download it from recovery, it won't be from home. Just one other hassle I can't really afford to deal with as I'm on a deadline.

I noticed that having everything signed up to icloud brings back some sanity to my system (although I don't need it nor want it), so i'll keep moving forward with work until it really gets impossible. I've seen much worst cases around these parts, a small comfort I guess. But at the risk to get back to my previous rant, I just can't believe how apple is making top sales, launching watches and new lines of computers while faithful customers with barely 2 year old models are left in despair and suffer great professional loss. Even wondering if Apple could be liable to some extent.

Anyway, thanks for the help and support all. I'll keep you in the loop.

One more thing. I hear some talk of just reinstalling the latest combo update which could fix some issues. Never done such thing before. Could be an in-between solution perhaps. Any opinion welcome.

It will correct any errors in the existing install, if any. It won't do any harm but ... Backup first.

A reinstall that Old Toad suggested won't delete your user data or third party apps, it will re install the OS files only. It can help in situations where the OS is damaged but you may find that a clean install is a better option. That requires you erase the HD before installing & then move back your user data from a backup & reinstall any apps (it's safer to reinstall instead of migrate them as they may be causing some of the issues).

Since you mention issues on wifi for reinstalling I'd suggest you grab a copy of the 10.10 installer from the App store inside your normal OS, cancel the install when the download completes. Image that onto a USB stick and use that to reinstall. If the OS is still misbehaving after that you can reuse the USB stick in a week or so when you have time to clean install.

Create a bootable installer for OS X Mavericks or Yosemite - Apple Support or

    http://diskmakerx.com/

Backup everything before you do either just to be safe.

A USB installer will allow you to totally erase the disk & setup to a clean state, I suspect the disk format issue is normal, but just a new way that OS X works (using core storage disk formatting can be confusing).

Another option is to go along to an Apple Store, but they may just recommend a reinstall anyway. The store will also check if it is covered by any repair programs too, but you can also do that yourself…

As Photos is incapable of importing videos from the iPhone via Image Capture I´d rather have it not used my disk space -
