Q: iPhoto worked great; with Photo I can no longer import pictures from my camera.  Why?

I never had a single problem importing photos using a USB connection between camera and iMac.  Since the new Photos was automatically installed with the latest OS Yosemite update, I no longer can import photos...the screen automatically opens, it shows all the photos on my camera, it allows me to choose which photo(s) I want to import and then I click "Import" and I get a nasty message that my photos to be imported are NOT in the correct format.  Well, what the heck format are they supposed to be in?  I see nowhere on my camera where I can change a format...

HELP!!!!  I need to import photos of my granddaughter's First Communion for my entire family and the photos are stuck on my camera!!

when you import using Image Capture you specify where to import to - the photo are where you specified

Once you have them safely on  your Mac and at least one backup cycle has successfully occurred then use the cameras format command to reformat and erase your memory card - this usually resolves the problem you are having - which is why I suggested it

My guess is that my camera drivers are not compatible with the new software & there are no new drivers available from Canon for this old model --

Probably not - assuming you are shooting JPEGs there is no camera driver involved - just a simple file transfer - like the OP you problem is probably caused by a corrupted memory card and reformatting it using the camera's format command will probably resolve your problem too

I was able to download a Canon app through the Drivers & Software for my Powershot G6 that allows me to download the photos onto my computer -- they show up in my system 'Pictures' folder & from there I can then import them (or drag them into either Photos or iPhoto) and they import just fine. Not as easy a process as before, but at least I don't have to replace my camera! (& for the rest of you trying to help here, the import problem persisted in my Camera's case through Image Capture, iPhoto -- including trying an older version of iPhoto. I also went up the Apple support chain re-doing all of these steps). Just a case of OLD.

Apple may come up with a fix that would allow for the older camera models, but for right now they don't seem have one. I'll let you know if the Apple engineers get back to me with a better idea on this.

I also checked your Kodak EasyShare M853 software & I think you are in the same boat, & it looks like there are fixes/other ways to download. Here's the link: http://support.en.kodak.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16433/selected/true

    Hope this helps.

Then this is a good time to check how you have set them to be dealt with.

Open iPhoto, go to Preferences>General and check which application is set to handle imports from cameras.

I had the same problem. Your photo file is bigger than the 5GB of free iCloud storage. You can create a new file and just add photos to the new file. Once it is under the 5GB size your photos from iPhone will load.

Quit Photos then hold done the Option Key and click on Photos. You can then see how to make a new file. Be sure to select this new file as the Photos System file.

Please stop with that, it was not replaced, it is in your Applications folder, and its Library is in your Pictures folder. Do you want to fix this situation or just disagree with me?

    I don't appreciate rudeness...

How would I possibly know that iPhoto is still there...

I have used computers since the old Commodore 64 and don't appreciate being treated as stupid.

I will get my help from others, thank you.

I'm not using iCloud...I simply want to download the photos onto my computer.

I tried the old iPhoto, but it won't download anything, either...

    You're welcome.

You might want to start a new thread, you have already marked this one as solved, it will attract far less interest than an unsolved question would

    Goodbye.
