After reviewing your post, it sounds like you were able to download some music but are unable to play them. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Resolve issues with iTunes Match - Apple Support
If you can't download, play, or access songs
iOS devices: Tap Settings > Music. Tap the toggle next to iTunes Match to turn it off. Turn iTunes Match on by tapping Settings > Music, then tapping the toggle next to iTunes Match.
