Q: My photos won't import into Word for Mac after OS X upgrade

After upgrading to the new OS X Yosemite does anyone know how to import photos into Word or Excel for Mac? That library is now grayed out for me and I am in mid-project on Word. I used to be able to copy and paste right into my document, now it seems I must exclusively work within the Photos program.

Thank you for the quick response. It appears that the real issue is that the iPhoto and all new Photos app won't share with each other. All the images I uploaded went right into the new Photos app and won't let me export them into iPhoto. That menu is grayed out.

In Photos select the images you want to export and go

File -> Export -> Export unmodified originals

This puts them in the Finder. Then add them to iPhoto.

You should also be able to access your Photos library from that Browser in  Word.

Terence: I cannot see the Photos library in the Word photo browser anymore. All I can see is Photo Booth. Is there a way to reset/refresh that "link"? I checked in the "File Locations" section of the Preferences, but there did not seem to be anything relevant there. Thank you!

I have the same issue too, do you find a resolution James. I have sent feedback to Word for Mac.

MS Office updated the other day, but that did not help with this issue. Have you heard anything back, mikes?

I actually found that the issue started for me after the MS Office update last week. It was originally working fine with the new Photos for Mac App until the MS Office update. Now Word can't find the photo browser, it only shows Photo Booth. I also can't drag drop photos from the Mac App into Word, like I used to be able to. At the moment I export the photos to a directory then I can input from file in Word. That works, but it's a bit untidy.

I'm thinking off trying the Office 2016 for Mac, which are available now as demos. Unfortunately Microsoft don't reply to questions that are raised, so I'm not sure what the underlying issue is with photo's not working.

That is interesting! I was not able to get the new Photos to work at all, ever. But the end result is the same. I am doing the same export "trick," but as you say, messy and cumbersome.

I wish my Mac were young enough to qualify for free Pages, especially since my iPad is. I am growing weary of clumsy Word 2011, and I would like to give something else a try.

I've downloaded and installed the Office for Mac 2016 Preview, and that version of Word works fine with the new photo app. The previews of Word and Excel are pretty good, but a bit buggy as preview versions, but it looks like and overall good improvement. Here's the link http://products.office.com/en-NZ/mac/mac-preview

I am having this problem too.  It is so frustrating.   I think I will download the 2016 Office for Mac too if it fixes this.  your info had been really helpful.  thanks.  I though it was something I was doing.

This worked for me but it seems redundant to export photos.   Does anyone know why this stopped working.?  I upload photos to apps such as word and online for home inspections everyday.  This is very frustrating.

Hi I have spent over an hour on the phone to apple today and the only work around they could suggest is you can drag and drop the thumbnail from photos onto your desktop and then across from your desktop into word - slightly quicker than importing but frustrating !

I can no longer find iPhoto on my Mac- just Photos.

Would that have been wiped out on the update, so that we only have photo now and not accessibility to iPhoto?
