Apr 26, 2015 10:13 PM in response to jmar17by Tom Wolsky,YYou say it disappears from iTunes. Does that mean you see it in iTunes while FCP is open? While you see it can you use reveal in Finder inside iTunes to show you its location?

Apr 26, 2015 10:50 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby jmar17,Yes - after sharing, the movie file is located in the FCPX library file > event folder > Shared Items > {folder with long unintelligible character string} > filename (1920 x 1080).m4v.
Then when I close the FCPX application the video file disappears (but the folder remains).

Apr 26, 2015 10:57 PM in response to jmar17by Tom Wolsky,TThat correct. It disappears from fcp, but it should be in iTunes. Your question says it's disappearing from iTunes. Export the file to iTunes. Do not close FCP. Open iTunes if it's not already in open. Is the file in iTunes? If it is use the reveal in Finder function in iTunes to see where the file actually is. Close FCP. Has the file disappeared from iTunes and from the Finder?

Apr 26, 2015 11:04 PM in response to Tom Wolskyby jmar17,That is correct - after I share the movie from FCPX I can see and play the movie from iTunes. After I close FCPX and try to play the video from iTunes it gives me a 'can't locate file' error and the file disappears from the share folder.

From my iTunes preferences the /Users/(myusername)/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Home Videos
I added that subfolder to distinguish home videos from purchased movies.
thanks for your help btw!

Apr 27, 2015 6:57 AM in response to jmar17by Tom Wolsky,★HelpfulAfter the export is complete the my shared file goes into the Home Videos folder.
The only thing I can suggest is while both applications are open is to move the exported file from the FCP bundle into the iTunes folder.

Apr 27, 2015 2:24 AM in response to jmar17by Alchroma,I just tried an export on mine.
The export to iTunes stayed where it was supposed to even when FCP X was closed. I sent mine to the iTunes Library.
Maybe your created folder is the issue with the deleting??
The Shared folder files in FCP X has been dumping exports for a few versions now even though it has not always done so.
Why Apple has done this is beyond my comprehension.
Note: This is the first iTunes export I've done since the 10.2 update.
The quality is abysmal for some reason and I'm going to have to try a few variants to end up with something acceptable.

May 2, 2015 6:08 PM in response to jmar17by jmar17,So here's what I've had to do - sounds ridiculous and I'd love to hear if anyone else has experienced this issue or has a better solution.
- Share project - in my case to Apple Device
- Open iTunes, ctl-click on the newly shared file and "Show in Finder"
- Manually copy the file to your iTunes library folder. Annoyingly this leaves the resolution in the file name (e.g., "(1920x1080)" ) but that can be removed later.
Better than having to re-share the movie file every time you want to watch it on your AppleTV.

May 2, 2015 7:25 PM in response to jmar17by Russ H,You could also just save it to your Desktop and then add it to your iTunes library.
it doesn't alter the movie title.

Jan 19, 2016 3:09 PM in response to jmar17by pdjenkins54,Found a possible solution on another thread that worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you...
In the iTunes preferences, under the Advanced tab, I needed to check the box to "Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library."
After I did this the movie would show up in my Home Videos folder and in iTunes. Unfortunately I can't take the credit for this, but hope it helps...

Mar 11, 2016 12:41 PM in response to jmar17by Douglas Webster,May I add my two cents worth here and note that Apple's insistence on giving us no control over this matter is simply maddening.
I output shares and Lord knows where I am going to find them. If I WANTED them in iTunes, which I emphatically do not, I would send them there, but
for God's sake, why do you not give the user the ability to decide where they are to be output. I can't tell you how much time I have wasted trying to track down share outputs with this bloody system of yours. It seems to be part of an Apple mindset that it always knows what is best for the user and giving us any control over the matter is somehow a giant mistake..

Mar 11, 2016 1:34 PM in response to Douglas Websterby Tom Wolsky,I'm sorry but you can send the file to wherever you want. The iTunes library is the default location.
In the menu for Add to playlist you can select Other, which lets you set the export location.
