Q: Photo Stream Limit Reached, Uploading will resume on ...

Purchased a large iCloud Storage so I could keep all my photos together, 500GB and completely uploaded all 250GB of images.

Photos seems to indicate that all the images are updated correctly but i still keep getting this message every dayScreen Shot 2015-05-01 at 9.37.53 AM.png

Can I tell what images are not uploading, any progress, any indication if this is an erroneous message or means something?

Mac Pro (Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

It sounds more like you exceeded one or more of the limits listed in this Apple document: My Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Sharing limits - Apple Support

Make no sense though there are 27,000 images, and it says it will resume in 24 hours.

All the images are available on all my devices and seem to be updating.

What limit am I reaching, this has been going on for two weeks now every day.

Also the iCloud preferences says it is updated just now, so what is going on?

I've asked someone who's more knowledgeable with iCloud Drive, sharing, etc. to drop by.

    • see the document Old Toad linked to:

My Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Sharing limits - Apple Support

He is right, the error message must be caused by the monthly upload limit.

    • Uploads to My Photo Stream per hour: 1000 photos
    • Uploads to My Photo Stream per day: 10,000 photos
    • Uploads to My Photo Stream per month: 25,000 photos

If you exceed one of these limits, your uploads to My Photo Stream will pause temporarily, and you might see a notification on your device. Your uploads will resume automatically when you no longer exceed the limit, such as in the following hour or on the following day.

The warning message you are receiving is for My Photo Stream - and My Photo Stream is independent of the iCloud Storage you purchased. If a device takes a photo and adds it to My Photo stream, or you add photos to a photo library on a Mac, that will upload to other devices using My Photo stream, the upload will stop, if you reached a limit of 25,000 uploaded photos per month.

The total of photos in My Photo Stream can be much less - iCloud does not store more than 1000 photos in My Photo Stream anyway, but if you upload frequently from several devices, you may hit this monthly limit.

So what is the point of having 500GB space if I cant use it.

I am confused that i pay for a icloud storage and then it says you cant use it?

Photo Stream does have nothing to do with your paid cloud storage. It is a stream to transfer photos between devices, not to store the photos. You can transfer 25000 photos per month this way.

I am confused that i pay for a icloud storage and then it says you cant use it?

You can use your paid iCloud  storage for  documents on iCloud drive, or photos in iCloud Photo Library. If all your devices have iCloud Photo lIbrary enabled, you do not need to transfer photos by My Photo Stream. Import to your Photos library on an iPhone or on a Mac, and the photos will upload to iCloud. Disable My Photo Stream on the device, where you import and upload to iCloud Photo Library, or the photos will stream as well by My Photo Stream, and then you may hit the limit.

But without Photostream how do all my devices get updated? Do images get copied to the icloud drive if stream is off?

If I use google drive ( as I did prior ) all images are available on all devices since they have access to the cloud drive. and all images just get copied to the cloud every-time without any limitation.

I have 300GB of images in my iCloud Storage , it's all my photos from all my devices, and i have access from all my devices, that is what I pay for.

I am trying to migrate away from dropbox, that has no limit. ( and offers ios / OSX / windows apps that autobackup of all images )

I am trying to migrate away from google drive , that has no limit. ( and offers ios / OSX / windows  app that autobackup of all images )

What your telling me is that apple icloud storage is a third rate product, it will only give me access to all my photos on all my devices under certain limitations, that dont exist on competitive products?

maybe I am confused what photostream is?

Will all my images auto backup and be available on all devices without photostream?

If not, Looks like it's time to go back to Google Drivem, no limits and 30% cheaper.

If all devices are signed into iCloud Photo Library, then yes. iCloud Photo Library will upload all new photos. Only, if you have older devices with iOS 6 or 7, that cannot use iCloud Photo Library, then you may want to enable My Photo Stream as well to sync with those devices. Only, don't enable My Photo Steam, when you are adding more than 25000 photos to the Photos Library on a Mac within a month. All new photos you are adding to your library will stream to your devices.
