Q: iMessage not working since 10.10.3 update

- Beginning two days 04/14 (after I updated to OS X 10.10.3 and iOS 8.3, iMessage stopped syncing with other OS X and iOS devices on the same iCloud account. All on the same network.

- Continuity and Handoff also do not work on the MBP...(worked great a couple days ago)

- MBP is on WiFi.

- I have cycled power, turned on and off wifi, logged out of iCloud, logged out of iMessage (on all devices).

- I did get notice on the other devices when I turned iCloud back on and wanted my keychain restored.

- MPB is also updated to 10.10.3 and no issues. All features work.

- iPhone and iPad are at iOS 8.3 (12F69)

Also, when attempting to send to known iMessage account holders I was not getting the blue, rather the red highlight on the names and the "not registered with iMessage" notice.

I am constantly being asked to login to iCloud

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

I have the same problem and tech support claims that it's an internal Apple server error since these updates. The tech support guy checked his iMessage and other workers nearby and they weren't able to use it either. That was two days ago. I'm still waiting for Apple to get their **** together. Very worried they are becoming Microsoft with upgrades effin' everything up!

I have tried everything too, including a complete reinstall from scratch of the operating system. Nothing works. This is the first time in many years that I really wish that I had not hit the update button. Just hope that Apple is on top of this and that a fix will be issued quickly.

    I solved my issue:

    Solution:

On the iPhone in Settings > Messages > Send and Receive

is the iPhone Number ticked/checked and greyed out (It should be the default choice that you cannot change but sometimes the setting gets lost) ?

My iPhone number was grayed out but not ticked/checked.  I clicked on my Apple ID, logged out then logged back in and everything was fine. I had to tell my iPhone which devices I wanted to allow to send messages (MBP & iPad)

On the iPhone in Settings > Messages > Send and Receive

my iPhone Number is ticked/checked and greyed out. None of my other iMessage emails are listed, though. So when I tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage" on this same screen, input my password, it acts like it's signing in, then stops whirling and it goes back to the same screen, as if it's waiting for me to sign in again. My password has been reset multiple times and it works when signing into my iCloud account at iCloud.com. So it's not the password. Also, in my iCloud account it confirms that all of my devices are

The same process occurs when trying to sign in to iMessage on my iPad. No go -- just returns the screen that prompts me to sign in.

When trying to sign in to iMessage on my MacBook Pro, I get the error message: "Could not sign in to iMessage. An error occurred during activation. Try again."

This is the same error message now for the past five days. Apple iMessage is NOT working!!

Also: in my iCloud account (settings screen), it confirms that all of my devices are properly signed in to iCloud.

Anybody out there getting this error message? ***!!

Just got off the phone with Tier 2 support after spending an hour at The Genius Bar this weekend. The Genius Bar guy suggested that I contact Tier 2 support, which I just did, and they've informed me that their engineers are working on fixing their iMessage servers because many users worldwide are experiencing this. They said that it might have to wait until the next iOS update. Thanks, Apple! ...you're quickly becoming Microsoft  when your updates break a very important function to which we've grown accustomed!

    Ugh.

I update to 10.10.3 last night on my mac. My new imessages are synching from this morning, but on my mac it deleted almost all of my old messages except for only a handful from 2-3 days ago (although there were newer messages). It still knows who I've talked to, but most are blank and out of order from the last person I talked to except for the message I sent this morning. Is there anything I can do, or are those messages lost on my computer now?

    Open messages.app

    Go to: Settings -> Accounts

Switch to your iMessage account and check if it is connected.

if it is not connected, enter your password and submit.

After that everything was working fine for me again.

You are one of the lucky ones, KirKCameron. Yesterday I followed up with Tier 2 Support and they told me the same thing: Apple is aware of this widespread problem, they are working on it, and fingers are crossed that they will fix it. Now...are there enough of us affected to warrant Apple actually fixing it? I have my doubts.

As of today, my iMessage still doesn't work and this wonderful efficiency tool lies dormant on my MacBook Pro, iPhone 6, and iPad Mini.

    Thanks, Apple!

    NOT!!

Thank you, Kirk.  Your note fixed my iMessage problem.

After upgrading my MacBook Pro to 10.10.3, I also had a problem with iMessage not working at all.  iPhone 6+ and iPad Air messaging worked fine.  Here is what I did:

    1.  Open iMessage app on your MacBook Pro.

    2.  Open Preferences (under Messages menu)

    3.  Click on Accounts

    4.  Input your Apple I.D. Password, if it is missing

    5.  Under "You can be reached for messages at:" make sure there are checkmarks by each contact number and email address you want to be reached at.

That's it.  As soon as I checked all my contact numbers/addresses, iMessage worked on my MacBook Pro.
