Q: Problems with MacMail, Yosemite, OS 10.10.3

I have a few problems with MacMail in Yosemite:

1. I cannot set up new email accounts in MacMail. I went through my hosting provider Tech support twice, set up the accounts properly, and the new account will not verify my password. To no avail. I tried cancelling the new email in my cPanel and starting over. I set up the new account in Preferences>Internet Accounts, and In Preferences>MacMail>Add Account. Double checked the password. Nothing works. Also, another strange thing. I gave it a Description Title (my first name) and it altered that with my company name. So, instead of it showing My Name <myname@email.com> it shows like this: CompanyName (no space)@email.com.

2. The stationery pane will not allow me to change font, color or size of the content in my message.

3. The signature option pull down does not display more than one signature (and there are 4) --- and when I pull down "None" it does not delete my signature in that email message like it used to.

4. Sometimes I hear the "sent" message sound, and sometimes not. I wish to hear it all of the time.

5. My icons are all gray and I want color.

Thanks a lot!

Jerri

    There are no color icons.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Alternatively, see:

Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive

Choose the version you have installed now:

OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X

OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet

if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    1. Select the Advanced tab in the settings for the account and uncheck the box marked

Automatically detect and maintain account settings

    3. Problem in yosemite with image in signature field

    4. In the Notifications pane of System Preferences, uncheck the Do Not Disturb boxes.

    Hello Linc,

Thank you for your response. I unchecked the box to Automatically detect and maintain account settings. Then, unchecked Do Not Disturb. I can see the new email address in my Inbox, but there is still the triangle with the exclamation mark. I sent a test email to the new account, but when I check for mail, this email does not pick up new emails (or any emails for that matter.)

I wonder what I am still doing wrong. I had 3 of my company emails and one gmail account working when I upgraded to Yosemite and they are working find. It's just when I attempted to create a new company email address that is not working. Scratching my head?

    Thanks,

    Luci
