Q: iMessage on my mac says every contact is not registered with iMessage

When I type a contact to send an iMessage to from my mac, it turns red and says "message could not be sent, contact is not registered with iMessage"

Also, SMS Text forwarding is now able to be turned on and working again as well as continuity and phone calling from the iMac

I think it may have been a coincidence for you.  I had tried everything you had and also completely re-installed OS X.  After my support call to a tier 2 on Sunday my iMessages started working when I got home from work Monday night.  On Tuesday I noticed that handoff was working again also.  I think it is best to sign out of iCloud on all your devices then back in again to get everything back in sync properly.

I have not heard anything from support yet but we set up a call for Friday evening to see what progress had been made.  Looks like they have already fixed it.  I will try to find out exactly what was done to fix the issue and post here to help anyone else.  Might save them going through the process of deleting files etc with the tier 1 support.

Thanks Gogomilo77.  I think that would be a great approach.  Looking forward to your findings.

    Ok - here's where I'm at...

I tried your suggestion, and got it to think the contacts were logged into iMessage again. But I'm  still in the twilight zone...

    1) If I have another device also logged in, then when I try and send a message from the main device, the recipient sees the ellipses thinking I'm typing. I think the message is delivered. It never gets delivered.

    2) If the recipient tries to send me a message, it says delivered, but only because the other device that I am logged into is valid, and receives it. The main device is still not receiving anything.

    3) If I log out of the other device, and am logged in on only the main device, then if I try to send a message, I get the red exclamation mark of doom. Similarly, if the recipient tries to send me a message, they get the red exclamation mark too.

SO your suggestions seem to have gotten me half-way there - I'm back to communicating with the servers in terms of availability, but messaging is off the air.

As far as FaceTime goes, if I try to call someone, it now rings on their end, but unable to actually connect. I still don't get notification if someone tries to call me.

Pretty frustrating... eager to hear what Apple has to say to gogomilo77...

    Just curious...

What happens if you log out of iMessage on all devices, power them down then log in on the affected Mac?  As gogo said, it may have been coincidence for me and that may be true.

However, I feel there is physically an issue (meaning missing cert, etc.) that needs to be corrected.

Ralph also pointed out that iCloud has nothing to do with messaging.  Maybe just log out of message on all devices.  Re-delete all the files on the mac, then log back into your iMac messages first... then other devices.  I literally had to re-connect Text forwarding between phone and iMac.  Once one message came in as Blue, the others were just deleting and re-sending.  I eventually just deleted all conversation transcripts and started over.  I agree with Ralph, no reason to keep them for long periods of time and maybe as he suggested the file sizes were getting too large as well.

So I just got a MacBook Air today, and I was having the same issue. I ended up FaceTiming the recipient, they ignored it, then clicked the "Message" button from FaceTime. I can now successfully iMessage them. Hope that helps....

    Hi,

    Your question lacks detail.

You have joined a thread about the iMessages account reporting that every Contacts that is tried reports they are not Registered with iMessages.

Is  this what is happening to you ?

The Messages app can join 5 different Services, AIM, Jabber that includes GoogleTalk and Facebook Chat, Yahoo, Bonjour (Mac to Mac Local Chat) and of course iMessages.

More detail on what you are trying to achieve and any info on what you see will help.

Just saw this thread.  Similar problem has just started with me.  In my case, only some of my contacts show up as red.  I can send and receive from them on my iPhone but not on my Power Book.  I'm sure I was able to message them in the past.  Not sure when this started.  I noticed it tonight because I got messages from 3 people.  2 showed up on my phone and PowerBook … 1 only on my phone.  More curious is that none showed up on my iPad but did as of a few days ago.  As I mentioned, this just started for me so I haven't figured out totally what's working and what's not.  But clearly some contacts I sent messages to days ago are now showing up as red … but only some.

    Hi,

More than likely you will have to contact Apple Support and ask to speak to a Level 2 person and have them check your Apple ID's login from your Mac.

It is an Apple ID issue that is Mac specific  and stops the Apple ID working.

It is not Software or Hardware related.  It is an Apple ID issue.

I did contact Apple support as I have all of a sudden as of this past Tuesday, been having all kinds of bizarre things happening with Messages on my Mac. These include things like "...not registered with iMessage", my Mac only sending iMessages as SMS messages, and etc.... I have 3 Senior Advisors, 1 iOS, and 2 Mac, involved, plus engineering, I am now awaiting a response. I have tried everything under the sun they told me to try, and some things on my own, like messing around with my Keychain, and signing out, along with de-registering and what not, and nothing is working. I am not having issues it seems on my iPhone, just my Mac.

    Hi,

    Just to check.

Date and Time including Time Zone and Daylight Saving settings if applicable.

A valid DNS server listed in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab (Not the "router" IP)

Your Name in the My Card in the Contacts App.

The Serial Number of the Mac showing in "About This Mac" panel. - This leads to a valid IDS: AppleID-Auth Token (where the AppleID is an email) in the Keychain.

More recently no McAfee (without allowing Messages) or Kapersky

Only one Account in Contacts App. > Preferences > Accounts for syncing.

Using only Ethernet or WiFi and not both.

    Humm,

It seems we will have to wait on Apple Support then.

Did they mention whether they had looked at the iMessages servers and it's treatment of your Apple ID from the Mac ?

No, the only thing they told me briefly is that my account is challenged, whatever that is supposed to mean.
