May 9, 2015 4:00 PM in response to Old Toadby Sharpiejeff,Thank you, but i'm not sure how to backup the library. I tried to drag it onto an external backup drive and says it'll take 3 days to copy all the files over. Is that the best way to backup? there's also an option to compress the library. would that be ok ?

May 9, 2015 4:25 PM in response to Sharpiejeffby LarryHN,Dragging it ti an external drive that is formaated Mac OS extended (journaled) is one way to backup - if you have a good wired connection it will not take three days - the finder makes really bad estimates
And you need to re-read the instructions - you hols down the Command and Option yes while launching iPhoto (NOT the central-option) to get the first aid window
What version of iPhoto =do you have? And what OS version?

May 9, 2015 4:37 PM in response to Sharpiejeffby LarryHN,To recap
1 - you have a good, current backup of your iphoto Library?
2 - You are holding down the command and options keys while launching iPhoto and keeping them down but the first aid window is not appearing?
Is that correct?
