Q: Trackpad extremely choppy after 10.10.3 upgrade, no issues before.

Hello. My trackpad is extremely choppy after upgrading to 10.10.3. The cursor skips all over the place, make the computer almost not useable. Anyone else see this issue? The older Apple Mouse seems to work much better. Thanks.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), null

And ... it's stopped working again.  I'll be calling Apple later, once my utterly unnecessary restore has completed .

Could this be a "Continuity" issue?  Try turning off all the continuity features (Handoff, Phone calling, SMS and Instant Hotspot)?  I would give it a try but the problem happens infrequently for me.  I'll try to remember to try this the next time I experience the problem.

I did try deleting the Bluetooth PAN in the network settings on my Mac Pro over the weekend when I experienced this problem but that did not make a difference.  I did not do a reboot though now that I think about it ... I guess I should reboot and see if the problem recurs.

Oh my goodness. So I'm the person whose problem was fixed by upgrading to 10.10.4 beta. It's been working for six straight days and all of a sudden my issue is back. It happened right after I opened up Chrome. Back to troubleshooting...

So, after a week of continued investigation and help from Apple Support we've narrowed my problem down and can reproduce the issue and stop it from occurring.  id be interested to see if these tests produced same results for others with this issue.

    1.  Booting in to Internet Recovery mode and running for hours just using browser works perfectly

    2. Creating a brand new partition and installing a clean OS (10.10.3) with a local user account, specifically not connecting to any Apple services (inc iCloud)  or installing any other software.  Works perfectly for hours using Safari and Apple mail (using a gmail account in this instance).

    3. Wait for it ... Logging in to iCloud via the control panel and enabling all services ... After a few minutes the problem with jittery cursor comes back with a vengeance.

    4.  Logging out of iCloud and rebooting things return to normal and the cursor behaves perfectly as expected.

    5.  Repeat steps 3 and 4 to double check.

I'd be very interested if anyone else can repeat and witness the same behaviour as above.  The issue has now been escalated to 3rd level support for diagnosis and I await an answer as to exact cause.

After experiencing an intermittent jumpy wireless trackpad pointer I tried everything I could think of including resetting NVRAM, SMC, eliminating some applications, and reinstalling OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.  I have come to the conclusion that the problem was and still is caused by Bluetooth interference from a device in a neighbor's apartment.

Confirmed.. It's something to do with iCloud, after I signed out of iCloud and without rebooting the iMac, both my magic mouse and trackpad worked like charm...

I just bought a second hand Mac Mini in an attempt to separate work and pleasure to two separate machines. I spent quite a while working on it to get all the software and everything else configured and after several days of impressively problem free Bluetooth Trackpad and Keyboard use, I realised that I was still on OX X 10.10.2 so I launched the App Store and updated to 10.10.3 and from the very next boot up, the Trackpad was all over the place. There is no way I can do anything requiring a cursor - it's ridiculous.

I have tried every possible solution in this thread but even though one or two had a temporary effect, after five minutes or so the erratic cursor came back.

I have found one solution that works for me every time.

I have disabled "Handoff" in "general" settings on all the accounts, then rebooted.

I have done it for some weeks and it works perfectly if you don't need Handoff feature.

If I enable Handoff again, the problem comes back.

It works on my iMac 27 late 2012.

    Try this ...

    Hey Guys,

I have just found a fix for this problem, simply by disabling "Tap to Click", "Look up", "Three finger drag" under "Point & Click" in Trackpad preferences.

I don't know which one exactly caused the problem, and I don't bother to find out, but it works immediately.  If anyone has the time to experiment, please tell me the result.

    Hello,

Disabling the suggested trackpad features did not help the situation - at least concerning the Apple Wireless Trackpad associated with a late 2012 iMac.

I have tried everything including, but not limited to, reinstalling Yosemite with no success.

Since there are relatively long periods of time (more than 12 hours) when the trackpad pointer is fine, I am beginning to think that the problem might be caused by some sort of intermittent Bluetooth interference.  Did Apple modify the Bluetooth interface in a way that inadvertently made it more sensitive to outside interference?

Did you try turning off Handoff?

I did disable Handoff and it had no effect.  When I reinstalled Yosemite I had hoped for the option of installing 10.10.2 just to see if  the problem began with 10.10.3, but I did not see that option.

As I am writing this post the trackpad pointer is just fine, but earlier this morning it was jumping all over the place; the problem is intermittent and I can't narrow down or recreate the circumstances that cause the problem.

You have to disable handoff on all accounts, THEN reboot.

If you don't do that, it doesn't help.

For me, I have absolutely no problems since I have disabled handoff.
