Q: Track pad behaving erratically

Hi Folks,

I've switched to using apple rechargeable batteries in my trackpad just today.  All of a sudden the track pad is jumping and selecting icons and text without input.  I can be typing in pages and the cursor will now jump to another section of my text.  Navigating the dock with one figure it will open applications without an further input.  Could this be a fault in the power supply from the batteries!?

Im using it with OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 on a late 2013 iMac.

Any input welcome.

    Hi all,

An update to my problem described above.

Its not the batteries, just a coincidence with the purchase of the recharger pack.  In hind sight I should have saved the money and brought a new track pad. Or perhaps a proper mouse that continues to function correctly beyond 15 months.

I run a diagnostics test.  Found nothing.  I've installed standard AA batteries and the pad is still going high wire.  I've deselected tap to click in the options screen, along with three figure drag.  Bizarrely enough its still selecting icons and dragging boxes around the screen as I move the cursor.

So perhaps its a software issue.  I don't see any changes to the track pad in the OS X updates.  I've read placing paper over the pad might help.  Not with mine.  Turning it off and on again seems to reset it and lessen the issues for a short while.  In the end it doesn't resolve the problem.

Has anyone else experienced such problems?  What did you do to resolve it?

    Kind regards

Thank you for the link.  I appreciate the thought.  However, I've already read that and been through the check list.  I have no reason to believe in wifi interference and I haven't installed any new third party software in months.  The remaining factors I don't think are relevant.  In fact I questioned the batteries after reading point 5 about the power supply.  The only variables I can deduce are the switch to apple rechargeable batteries and the OS X updates.  Prior to which the track pad has been immersed in signals from neighbouring wireless networks and devices for months without issue.

There is one remaining factor, that is the durability of the track pad.  There are plenty of reviews that question quality.  Strange thing is I've had mine for 15 months and those reviews citing an issue all do so within a few months of ownership. Seems too soon for hardware failure.
