I've been trying to install the new Windows 10 Insider Preview and this error shows up when I try to create the bootable USB with the Windows 10 iso file
MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

The error is probably due to Windows 10 preview not being supported by Boot Camp. The highest you can go is going to be Windows 8.1 if you have Boot Camp 5.1 installed on your MacBook Pro. 1. Make sure you are using a USB2 device.
2. You can install W8.1 and then upgrade to W10, using the self-contained W8.1, which no longer needs BC Assistant.
3. Please see Requirements for Software Update Service - Apple Support for connectivity to Apple CDN so you can download Windows Support software.
