Q: My laptop is making a loud beeping noise when I try to turn it on.

My macbook pro is making a loud beeping sound when I turn it on. The screen stays dark and it will not boot.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

If you hear 3 beeps, there is a problem with RAM module.

If that is not the case, you have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

This helped thoI'm surprised you couldn't hear it from there! It was LOUD and scary. I think it is the three beeps--five second delay--three beeps described in the startup tones. Thanks for the answer. This may be a job for the mac IT.

You can take out the RAM modules and clean the contacts and the reinstall them. Make certain that they are well seated.

If there is no change, take the modules out and install only one at a time in each of the bays. That way you might be able to determine if just one module is faulty or there is a problem with one of the bays.
