Q: MacBook Pro (2012) Reaches Temps Over 150 Degrees

I recently purchased a 2012 MacBook Pro. It was to replace a Dell laptop that recently crashed. However, I ended up returning the MacBook because it became too hot to use. It would constantly reach over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. All I would do is surf the Internet (Facebook, e-mail, YouTube, etc) and stream movies. Doing the same tasks on my Dell only caused it to reach about 95 degrees Fahrenheit. That's quite a difference in temp!

I downloaded smcFanControl, but it barely helped. I would have to have the fans cranked to 6200rpm just to get it to slightly cool down. Nothing else I tried worked, so I was forced to return the MacBook.

Did I just purchase a defective notebook? I know MacBooks are known to overheat, but the one I had was a fire hazard. The charging power supply also would become too hot to touch while plugged in as well.

I'd like to give a MacBook another shot, but I can't have a machine and charger that are going to reach those temps. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
