Q: Watch not recognising stand time

My watch seems very inconsistent with recognising stand time. It has so far registered 4 hours of stand time this morning, which is accurate, but since midday it has registered nothing. This is despite the move section recognising steps. During the last hour, I re-started the watch, walked approx 100 steps around the flat for more than a minute, but it still has registered nothing.

Any ideas?

Same issue here. Some days standing is correctly tracked, some days it is not. I observed three things:

    1) when I stand at the beginning of an hour, that hour will be more likely to be tracked as idle hour

    2) tracking is more accurate on active days when I frequently sit down and get up and less accurate on days when I spend more time sitting e.g. on the couch like on weekends

    3) working at a standing desk does not count as standing (which is paradox, since that way the app motivates you to sit down more time instead of standing more)

And - calibrating not only does not help, actually it made it worse for me.

I like activity app and workout app a lot, but that issue with inconsistent tracking of standing is really frustrating.

I have had the watch only since Tuesday however I noticed right away that it did not appear to be tracking standing correctly.  I have NEVER gotten a stand notification.  And today it is not tracking standing at all.  It is still at zero and I just came back from a 2 mile walk (without the phone....so much for calibrating).  It logged steps and exercise activity but not standing.  I will wait and see if they release an update and if it helps.  I didn't get the watch for the stand notifications but I would still like them to work.

Aryht, this is exactly what I have noticed after monitoring things for the last week. All 3 points are the same for me.

Make sure you go into the activity setting on the iPhone watch app and toggle on the stand reminders, progress updates, and goal completions.

YYou have to actually walk around for at least a minute of each hour to get the stand credit for that hour. Just standing won't do it. If you haven't moved by 10 minutes of the hour you will get the notification to stand so you need to get up and walk until you get the notification that you were successful. You have to toggle these settings on in the activity section of the watch app on your phone.

I had the same issue, it would not recgnise my stand time, I realised that when you sit down your arms are usually raised, for example at a stand desk your arms are at right angles typing...I have tried this approach while sitting down and it works as well...put your wrist down next to your hip with your arm fully extended so your hand is pointing towards the ground (like your standing at attention), you don't need to move around in fact I found moving around was less helpful to recognising the stand point, particularly if you raised your arms at all during the minute, the apple watch recognises standing based on how a normal person would stand up, and that is with your arms at your sides

Having now had the watch for 10 days, I have been observing what it does, and have concluded that it must get confused if you stand up at the turn of the hour.  Sometimes it can be OK, sometimes not.  I have also discovered that if you have been standing or moving a lot within the hour and it did not register, you don't get a stand warning, and it won't give you credit even if you run around in the last 10 minutes.  I have tried standing up and raising my arms, and lowering my arms, but nothing works once it has decided it is not going to credit that hour.  I seem to get credit most hours but today it so far missed one that I know I should have had, and yesterday it missed two.

I have also found that the only way you can tell if you have been credited is if you are keeping count, because it is difficult to tell by looking at the bars in the app.  You only know for sure you have missed an hour when the hour has passed and there is a grey bar instead of a blue one.  It would be nice if there was a clearer indication that you have completed your stand for that hour.

It's all rather frustrating, the activity app was one of the main reasons I wanted the Watch.  However I am finding I'm a lot more active as a result of the problems with the stand app!

Yup....they are all on and have been.  It just seems like the blue stand ring is stuck.  I have met or exceeded the other goals today.

I experience the same problem daily (today is my 3rd day with the Watch).

I have found the 3 characteristics (one user mentioned previously) to be true some of the time.  However, I have experienced the opposite as well.  Sometimes it will acknowledge I have stood for 1 min of the hour early on.

Also, I have found that shaking my fist in the air above my head while standing jump-started my watch and made it acknowledge I was standing right at the end of the hour.

    Best Regards,

    Phil

I have suspected that kind of behavior, but was not able to reproduce it yet. I will give it a serious try the next couple of days.

I have tried this several times over the weekend and it worked. Sometimes I have to get up and move around a bit, but when I consciously let my arm hang down for a minute or so and do not raise it, the hour was count as standing hour as it should. Seems to work.

Well, this "workaround", just stand at attention, would be called standing mountain pose in yoga, so I guess it should count. Seems like added movement is more in the spirit of things, but maybe Apple just needs to explain their thinking. That way we can add years to our lives and complete the blue circle everyday.

I've posted my discovery on another post but I thought it was an issue also until I started to swing my arms more prominently when I walk. Before, I would walk upstairs and back and forth for almost 5 minutes with no "credit". Now, it only takes me about 30 seconds to get the Watch to recognize it...and it's because I started to swing my arms more wildly as I walk when I'm prompted to stand. So when you're told to stand, just get up, swing your Watch arm as you walk and it should register pretty quickly. It does for me every time now.

Mine started doing this this morning. It was recording move just fine, but the other rings were frozen for several hours. Since it seemed like the hardware was working I decided it was a problem in software. I restarted the watch, but that didn't make a difference.

    This did work:

    I shut down the phone

    I shut down the watch

    I booted the phone

    I booted the watch

The rings returned to their normal behavior.

I tried this after an afternoon of no recorded standing activity (although I've been up and about), and at 6:18 PM (strange time) is finally recorded my seventh standing hour of the day.  We'll see if normal standing feature returns this evening.
