    Apple says:

"In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

"  • your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector

"  • your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed

"  • your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed

"  • Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.

Thanks for your reply, that one line; • your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed, as I posted previously mine's a MBP 13" late 2011, I just scraped in for the multi screen ability, even though I have OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 installed I'm just to old. I wish I had done some research prior to the hours I have spent trying to get AirDrop to work. Fortunately checking for replies was to be the start of my trying again to transfer. I have installed PhotoSync......

I have a 2015 Macbook Air, iPhone 6, and iPad mini 2. The iPhone and iPad work with airdrop but not the macbook air. I  even see the iPhone and iPad on the MBA when I open the airdrop page, but still can not send any photos to the MBA from the iPhone or iPad. All my software is up-to-date as of August 2016.
