May 14, 2015 1:44 AM in response to BJ4Rockby iAmRenzo,I do have this question. I tried to add a rule "Face is unkown" but Apple presents a tiny menu with all faces randomly sorted... why is this Apple? You make it very difficult these days.
Leaving the rule "is not" or "is" empty doesn't show the unnamed faces.

May 14, 2015 9:50 AM in response to BJ4Rockby Old Toad,There is no easy workaround except to add every known face as "is not".
Another feature left out of Photos. Be sure to tell Apple what missing features you'd like restored in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html
Here's a comparison of the two apps:

May 15, 2015 8:37 AM in response to Old Toadby QwertyMan11,As said another feature missing again from Photos, a simple one, or forgotten one to me (yes I've fed back to Apple), also the workaround of "is not.., is not.., is no good as only allows 12 rules, I have more than 12 faces...

May 15, 2015 9:49 AM in response to QwertyMan11by Old Toad,Keep bugging Apple to add those iPhoto features that make iPhoto so valuable back into Photos.

May 17, 2015 10:28 PM in response to Old Toadby iAmRenzo,I guess that is the only way.
While my entire database (100 GB) is now almost online I see so much 'features' I don't like or miss. I think I am going back to iPhoto and wait until Apple releases 2.0. Which is for Apple nowadays the more stable and feature rich(er) version of it all...

May 28, 2015 6:30 AM in response to BJ4Rockby MojoBaer,Here's a workaround:
Go to Faces and select all the face icons.
Then bring up info.
Add a keyword 'FaceID' to all the photos that have faces
Then you can create a smart album where FaceID is not a keyword.

Sorry what does this do exactly? I've done what you suggested, but I have photos in that part album, of for example, my car, photos with no faces (not un-named faces) etc in?
thanks

Aug 15, 2015 4:19 AM in response to MojoBaerby Disney-makes-me-Happy,This leaves out all the photos in which one face is recognized and another isn't...

Aug 15, 2015 4:25 AM in response to QwertyMan11by Disney-makes-me-Happy,I did try this thing with Smart Album and a couple of rules "face = [NAME]" ('cause I have less then 12 faces...), but it doesn't work anyway. It does make a selection of all photos that don't have my faces in it, but not just the ones with a "no name"-face. Adding a rule with "face = [EMPTY]" doesn't cut it and adding a rule "face = no name" doesn't cut it either...
Hope someone has the one and only solution to this once so simple question in iPhoto...!

Sep 11, 2015 1:48 PM in response to BJ4Rockby Jon-Eric Eliker,I accomplished this with Smart Album and criteria "Face is not %" Since this is SQL the % works as a wildcard.
I don't think this will tell me photos that do not have a detected face—just the photos with a detected face that has not been named.

Sep 17, 2015 4:16 AM in response to Jon-Eric Elikerby Disney-makes-me-Happy,I did try this one. But unfortunately it didn't seem to work. I got all my photo's listed. Not just the ones with a no-named face. The ones with a named-face were out of the list, but otherwise all my photos were in it. Also the ones who don't even have a detected face...

Dec 5, 2015 5:26 AM in response to Disney-makes-me-Happyby QwertyMan11,Has this been "fixed" yet, or any better workarounds? I email Apple every version release so far.

Jan 23, 2016 2:35 PM in response to QwertyMan11by ckubek,It's not a fix but I have been trying to go through my entire library trying to find all of the photos that have detected, but unnamed faces. I just realized if I select all of the detected but unnamed faces and assign them a random, unused name, it will group them all as one person in faces and then it's easier to go through the photos and either appropriately name people or remove the erronous detection.
The ability for smart albums to find detected but unnamed faces would be ideal. It's ridiculous it's not a feature.

Feb 14, 2016 3:53 AM in response to BJ4Rockby m.ehinger,Here is a workaround, that actually worked pretty well for me:
- In Photos, go to Album > Faces
- In the lower part of the window, click to select one of the suggested faces
- Press cmd-a on your keyboard to select all faces
- Press Enter on your keyboard to enter a name.
- Enter the name "Unknown" in the diaglogue, and press enter (or the "Continue" button).
- If Photos finds faces similar to those you just added, click the button "Add and Continue".
You may have to repeat this several times before all your unkown faces have been named "Unknown".
Since all your unknown faces will now have the name "Unknown", you can go through them one by one, giving the right name to each person and remove any unwanted faces. As you do this, the faces will be automagically removed from the group "Unknown" and added to the correct person instead.
Hope this helps!
