Jan 22, 2014 8:14 PM in response to Painter2by sberman,The POP vs. IMAP choice is not made on your iPad - it is made on your email account server.
For example, if you are using gmail, see:

Jan 10, 2015 1:34 PM in response to sbermanby BrucePeiff,I figured a way around it on an iPad mini 2. I have Time Warner (RoadRunner) and verified with them that they are presented as an IMAP provider. When you go to the setup screen, type your email wrong, but keep the provider right, for example, if my email is joesmith@woh.rr.com, enter is as joesmith9999@woh.rr.com, enter the password, it will not verify, then bring up the setting page where you can pick IMAP or POP3 at the top of the screen!!

May 16, 2015 2:21 PM in response to Painter2by Dr Fust,I have found that you can force an IMAP vs POP account setup on iOS (8.3) by entering a wrong password. The unit then cannot connect to the server to automate the process. After the setup fails you will be presented with a screen to choose IMAP or POP and manually enter your sever nmames. When finished with server entries, enter correct password to make a verified connection and then save settings. You can then add or configure additional servers if needed.
The POP account setup on the iOS device seems necessary to prevent email (RR) from disappearing on the device when mail is downloaded from the server on a Windows (8.1) workstation client (also setup as POP account).
