Q: I want to down-grade from v10-10 to one compatible with iPhoto.  How do I do this?

I need a version of iMac which is compatible with iPhoto.  How can I get this installed on iMac which now has v10.10 down-loaded?

iMac (24-inch Early 2008), iOS 8.3

Backup your files, repartition your HDD, reinstall 10.10.2 The current version of iPhoto, 9.6.1, is compatible with 10.10.2

You don't have to downgrade the system.  iPhoto 9.6.1 is compatible with 10.10.3.  Your iPhoto application was not deleted from your hard drive when Photos was installed.  It was just removed from the Dock and is still in the Applications folder.

If you had iPhoto 9.6.1 previously it will work with your iPhoto library.  If it was an earlier version of iPhoto 9 follow the instructions posted by Terence Devlin in this post:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
