Q: Old iPhoto files were duplicated after switching on iCloud photos.
I started using the new Photos app and then switched on iCloud photos. This caused my old iPhoto files to be correctly uploaded with my new Photo files, but then also subsequently redownloaded into the Photos file too and this is taking up a lot of space. The download originals to this Macbook is switched on and I want the originals on here.
I can view contents of the libraries on the startup disk, and I can see all the Masters from the iPhoto library is contained in the Photos library too.
How can I fix this without losing my photos? Is it safe to delete the iPhoto files directly from the disk?
Thank you in advance
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

right see the link I posted
see Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support - so having the iPhoto and Photos libraries is not doubling the space - in fact it is using very little more space
