May 18, 2015 3:45 AM in response to colinfromwienby Imp68,You'd have to ask Canon why they don't want to support a **10 year old printer.**
In the mean time... http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/index.php

10 years old but still going strong on the "dark side"
What happened to the Apple driver, cups?

May 18, 2015 11:23 AM in response to colinfromwienby greg sahli,★HelpfulApple doesn't make drivers - it just makes them available via App Store & Software Update.
And CUPS = common unix printing system - it's the core of OS X's printing system (as well as for linux and other unix-like OSs).
Since this document shows the same driver for many iPxxx printers, I think you should try a nearby model number. Maybe it will work.

May 18, 2015 12:56 PM in response to greg sahliby colinfromwien,I installed the ip4800 driver, now the driver window (which still says ip4200) shows very slowly % printed but nothing happens with the printer. This is on my
Mavericks machine and is exactly what happened when I plugged my Yosemite MBP into my friends ip4200. Weird.

May 21, 2015 10:58 AM in response to Eric Rootby colinfromwien,Well, I´ve done everything suggested plus 1)Repaired Permissions, 2)Ran Disk Warrior 5, 3) Ran Sophos AV, 4)Ran MacScan and did a lot of web searching. I backtrack now to the point where it all started.
When I plugged my MBP into my friends ip4200 printer, this was the first time I had tried to print from the MBP since the 10.10.3 update. 1st try "printer not connected" message, even though the printer powered up with the print command. Repaired permissions tried again, same result. Gave up and plugged into my friends MBP running "Snow Leopard" everything was normal until it tried to print at which point the paper feed made a horrible noise and got no further. After
a lengthy and thorough inspection of the printer no mechanical damage was found.
Back to the present and my two machines. Both now do the same as described above. I suspect that the printer firmware got modified at some recent time.
I would very much like to hear from anybody who has had similar issues with this OS/Printer combination. I have now trashed two perfectly good printers.
APPLE PLEASE RESPOND I WANT MY PRINTER BACK.

This is a user-to-user support area. Apple responds maybe once in a hundred threads.

May 21, 2015 1:10 PM in response to greg sahliby colinfromwien,Yes I know but I thought it was worth a try. Maybe a user has the same issue and will join in.
I just finished reverting to "Snow Leopard" on my MBP, so many problems with "Yosemite".
Thanks anyway.

The forum I think you're looking for is here: http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Printer/ct-p/printer
It's up to Canon to support your printer. Not Apple.
