Q: iphone 5s won't turn on after ios 8.0.2 update

Hello so i updated my 16GB iphone 5s to ios 8.0.2 because i too had problems with the previous versions and after the update it had to restart my phone except now it wont turn on. After trying to restart it all it comes up with is the apple logo that comes up when you restart the phone and then after a while i will get the "blue screen of death" I have left my phone on all day to see if it will restart but still the same cycle of the apple logo and then the blue screen. I know other people have had successful updates with the 8.0.2 ios update but i haven't unfortunately. I have drained my phone battery and after that it did display that i needed to connect my phone to a charger but as soon as it got charged it still restarted with the apple logo followed by the blue screen. The blue screen also has a single line running across horizontally, the position of changes after every attempt of restarting. I have also tried turning off by the home button and the sleep button but still doesn't work and also my itunes wont read that my phone is connected whilst it is resetting.

Any ideas or solutions? Help would be much  appreciated as i have a fairway to travel to go to an apple store. Thank you.

I had a similar problem today. Once I plugged my iphone 5 itunes asked me if I wanted to update the IOS and I clicked yes. Few minutes later an error message appeared and since then my phone is dead.

When I want to turn on my phone it shows the itunes logo with the cable> I have tried everything in this post from re installing itunes to the home button/lock button trick but nothing works. As I am one of the lucky iphone 5 broken hold button owner it is even more difficult now to do these tricks. Thanks to the manufacturing problem!

Genius bar in Paris only has availability for an appointment next week!

Thank you very much Apple for letting your users/customers down.

I have tried everything mentioned in here but my iPhone 5s is still unusable.  I was doing the ios 8.02 update and afterwards all I get is the usb port with the arrow and the iTunes logo on my phone.  Now I have to wait to go to an Apple store late in the afternoon tomorrow to hopefully get this fixed.  This is the only phone I have.  I really used to like Apple products, but I'm getting so tired of this happening almost everytime there is an update.  Happens to my iPad too.  Apple, come on.

I had the same problem as well. But I was able to fix it by following method.

    1. Try to get your iPhone to shut down by pressing home and power button at the same time for about 5 sec. (This didn't worked for me, so I had to wait until battery to die)

    2. Turn on your iPhone by pressing the power button and as soon as you see an Apple logo let go the power button and press and hold the volume up button until your iPhone boot into lock screen.(by doing so, you are getting into safemode)

    3. Backup everything and restore your iPhone.

hope this helps and please excuse my poor English

I have the exact same problem, but i haven't even got IOS8 update, it just randomly shut off one day and now its constantly doing what your phone done, even whilst i try to restore it on itunes, it starts to do it, then my phone just starts with the apple logo and i have to start it all again, so its not getting fixed, everytime i try to restore it my phone just restarts every time. Can't even see someone from the apple store for an appointment untill 6 days, nothing is working for me, is there any other suggestions???

This exact same thing happened to me after the software installation on iPad 2. I did nothing but hard restarts all day. Then I finally just now did a hard restart and the second the white apple showed up I hit the top button for a split second then hit the bottom button. Everything came back. No idea why this worked.

The same thing happened to me today as I upgraded to 8.2.  A technician at Verizon told me what to do, and it worked.

This seemed, at least in my case, to be the result of inadvertently turning ZOOM in.

When you see this "blue magnified screen on your screen, tap the screen with 3 fingers, and Zoom out of it.

Then go to Settings, General, Accessibility and turn ZOOM off.

    This did the trick.

    Hi to all,

Please help me with my problem. Its similar to this problem, but I only have iPhone 4s 32GB. I already tried what you said Imodztech, but I didn't click restore, instead chose update. My phone still doesn't work. I'm afraid to choose restore to factory settings cause I have a lot of files on it, specially pictures on it.I'm afraid I'll lose all my 10,000 images in my iphone. I dont have any backup of it. Can someone help me please?

I am having a similar problem. I have the iPhone 5s but I am on update 8.3. For the past couple hours my phone has been randomly shutting down and when I go to turn it on regularly it will not turn on. So I have hard reset it and it goes to the apple symbol for a while then it goes to the blue screen then it works for a little bit then it shuts off again. Now it will not even hard reset. What should I do?

As a caveat, I justa had the same problem and it wouldn't even restore (kept getting error 9 message); swapped out my 3rd party cable and voila, restored. Leave it to Apple to provide you with an expensive talk box that crashes out of nowhere, then won't even let you use a generic cable for restore. Anyway, hope this helps.

    Hi Joe

I think I have the same problem as you, because I cannot even restore my phone, I keep getting the error message and then it just does nothing. What do you mean 3rd party cable?

    Thanks!

    Hi there

I can do everything you suggest up to Restore point. When I click Restore, it starts the recovery mode restore to factory settings. About half way through I get an error message: "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1)." After that I have to click ok, iTunes no longer sees my iPhone, and my iPhone is just stuck with the white screen, Apple logo and the half way through filled black line. How can this be? It is 5 months old and was perfectly fine up to the update yesterday. There must be another solution.

    Thanks!

    VERY HELPFUL

I had a similar problem but instead of a blue screen I had a black one with lots of random text. Fixed it

    Thank you!
