Q: Urgent - problems to import mxf in my new imac FCPX

Hi,

I've been struggling with one problem none has been able to fix so far. I'm editing some MXF files coming from a Canon C300. On my MacBook Pro, no problem at all, but on my IMac 27' FCPX, I can only import 30 seconds of each clip!

I've tried to reinstall FCPX, to convert the files before, nothing works. And still no problem with my MacBookPro which has exactly the same FCPX version and the same Yosemite version.

Help!!;)

Thx

Ben

Any difference between copying the media and leaving the clips in place at import?

I know that you already responded to Luis that both Macs had the Pro Video Formats installed. But could you check Installations in System Info for each of them to be doubly-sure?

Also, are both machines running 10.10.3, or some earlier version? (I still have a system with 10.10.2 and I get a  lot of weird format behavior that I don't get on 10.10.3. My assumption is there is a compatibility issue between the previous version  and the last Formats download.)

As to AE, in the Finder Get Info change the Open With default app to something else.  (Probably the stock comp length is 30 seconds.)

    Do keep us posted.

Sorry Russ I don't understand your first question. What do you mean?

On the Pro Video Formats front yes both machines have been updated.

The Imac is 10.10.3 version now. I just updated it today to see and still the same problems that I had with 10.10.2.

Ok for AE, I have to change that.

    Many Thanks for your help

When you import, you have a choice: 1) Copy (media) files to your library, or 2) leave files in place (create aliases to the actual files),. I was asking whether you had tried both methods.

Yes I tried both. Very strange.

The thing is when I use "Import files" from FCP X I am only offered 30 seconds maximum to import which is not the case with my MacBook. It's like the soft couldn't import more than these files.

Only VLC can read theses files, even Pro Player takes only 30 secondes

Just about ready to step away from this (not that I'm uninterested) and let someone with a fresh perspective take on the issue.

Just one more thought: by any chance do you have a copy of the Calibrated MXF Import installed on the iMac? Reason I ask is that I notice the trial version has a 30 second clip limit.

Thx Russ, indeed I first place installed the Calibrated MXF (not on the MacBook) but I uninstalled it. Do you think it can have an impact?

If you step away many thanks already for your help.

Looking at the MXF Import user guide, I see that there are 4 files that need to be removed. take a look to see whether you got them all.

Apparently, the bug may come form a former install of Calibrated MXF software which I had on the Imac but not on the MBP. I sent the calibrated files to the trash but it's like the effect is still there. I try to chase some plug ins that might still be on the Imac to uninstall them but hard to find!...

Did you find and trash the files listed in the manual? If you did, and the issue is still with you I suggest you try a new user account. And if it still doesn't work properly, try emailing the developer.

Yes Russ, I trashed the whole list of files described in the user guide. And unfortunately the issue is still here. I'm gonna reboot totally my Imac so at least it will be clean... I don't see any other solution right now

What do you mean by reboot? Are you going to wipe your system drive?

Whatever, you intend, why not  try a new user account first.

    Hi Russ, Luis,

Issue fixed!! The problem came from Calibrated MXF plug ins which were still in the system. I found them (not easily), trashed them and now it works!

    Thanks for your help
