Q: saving storage space using iCloud drive?

how can i save storage space on macbook using iCloud drive?

Now storage is taken up by iCloud drive movies (80GB)

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

    in Photos, Preferences > iCloud has the option "Optimize Mac Storage."  It states: "Stores full resolution photos and videos in iCloud. Originals will also be stored on this Mac if you have enough storage space."

     

    There is no option in iCloud Drive to not keep a local copy of the iCloud Drive contents on your Mac

    Any file on the iCloud drive is mirrored on your hard drive.  It's not designed for an off drive storage system.  It's for syncing files between Macs signed in with the same Apple ID.

     

    What FixFifth is referring to is the iCloud Photo Library which is a different animal entirely but uses the same storage allotment as the iCloud Drive.
