It has to be connected to the shaw router permanently by ethernet.. there is no way the TC can extend wireless.. however if you use a long ethernet cable or EOP adapters you can place the TC anywhere in your home for better wireless into areas that are now wireless black spots.

That's not actually true.
An Apple Airport Base Station (including the Time Capsule) can extend an existing wireless network, without needing to be hard-wired to the primary base station.

Note there are advantages to having the base station(s) wired to the main router, but it isn't a requirement.

Yes, it is true. The OP is using a shaw router.. not apple.
Do I have to connect my TC to Shaw's router with wire first?
You can extend wireless of another apple network router..
You cannot extend wireless of a non-apple shaw wireless router. Sorry.. apple use a totally proprietary method to extend wireless.
No where in those apple documents does it make this clear.. however it does give all the examples of only apple routers.
Please try it.. tell me if you can extend wireless to a shaw wireless router. Or any other brand for that matter.
See for confirmation.
Is it possible to extend a non Apple router network using an Airport Express?
How do I connect AirPort Express to non-airport router
WDS is no longer supported.. and would only work with WEP security when it did work to a non apple router.. use at your peril. And not from any of the newer hardware.

Both of these articles talk only about extending a network when you already have another Apple producing the network that will be extended. In other words, you have to have two Apple routers if you want to extend wirelessly.
If the OP tries to extend his network provided by a Shaw router, he is going to be very frustrated.
Note there are advantages to having the base station(s) wired to the main router, but it isn't a requirement.
Yes it is if the OP is attempting to extend his Shaw router.
You might want to take a look at the current literature for an AirPort Express as far as its ability to extend a network wirelessly. The same information applies to other Apple routers as well.
Extend an existing Wi‑Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, AirPort Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express
