Q: Apple Watch Sport screen scratched?

After 2 days of normal use and looking after my watch better than my own child I have found that when in direct sunlight i can see what appears to be a hairline scratch directly down the centre of the face. I just cannot understand why this has happened? nothing has bumped or came into contact weigh the face other than my finger, even at night when its on charge i placed it in an old pillow case until I can get a stand? Im very meticulous about looking after my products and find this very unsettling that its happened after 2 days. Its really distracting when I'm outside as the scratch scathes the light constantly.

Im sure if I go into the store I will basically be told its my own fault but what do you think my options are? is it possible that this was on the screen before I got it?

Just would like to know if anyone else has had this issue?

Cheers

I know that feeling. I wish I would have called AppleCare instead of going to the store. I've been waiting since the 29th of April to get my watch back. The first two they sent as replacements were damaged upon arrival, and now I get to wait another week for a third replacement. See what I get for expecting amazing build quality and inspecting my watch upon opening the box?

You guys are lucky.  I've been into the store, called Apple Support twice and the second time even escalated it. Everyone said there was nothing they could do. I guess I'll just be returning it.

I have been wearing my 38mm sport black for 2 days now. Luckily no scratches yet But I need to be very carefully and I am not that type of person. My iphone 6 has a few already.

But I would think apple watch will have more chance be scratched than iPhone 6. They has the same glass.

The watch is on your wrist, especially for someone who hasn't been wearing a watch for 15 years, and you don't even realize what motion of your arm would scratch your watch.

I don't think a replacement from Apple will help. You have got a brand new watch, scratched, then you will get another brand new one, it will get scratched again. Right? no myth there.

The seconds brand new one may force you to be more obsessively careful. But what is the point? It is a watch, with a few scratches, it is still a watch, and still the best smartwatch in the world.

Take it easy, and be happy with your watch, and ok with the scratches.

Don't yell at your lovely kids if they accidently put your watch face down on the counter top, or hit your watch with their toys.

Have fun and enjoy your watch, don't be obsessive with scratches.

Couldn't disagree more. I also wear watches every day.  My watch that I got 18 months ago for $150 that doesn't even claim to be scratch resistant has 0 scratches on it. Maybe it is just a coincidence....

My iPhone that I also put in my pocket with my keys, have dropped several times... it has no visible scratches.

I get your point that it is bound to happen - it just seems it is too easy.

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience with my Sport that seems to echo many of your experiences.  I received mine last Monday, the 11th, and wore it that evening, then for a few hours at work the next day.  When I was home from work I noticed several small scratches on the screen, both across the main portion of the screen and many around the outer portions of the screen.  Obviously, after less than a full day of use, this was pretty upsetting - especially considering I'd owned unprotected iPhones and iPads for years that were never scratched.   So, I called Apple support and the rep was very helpful, now I'm just waiting for the replacement to ship.  I'm also not a fan of screen protectors, but I went ahead and ordered some ArmorSuit ones just so I don't have to worry about it from now on.

Anyway, just wanted to chime in and say if you're not happy about your Sport's seeming lack of scratch resistance, call Apple about it and they'll take care of you.  This is a first run of a brand new product, imperfections are bound to slip through.

Same here. My second day wearing my sport I got some scratches on it right in the middle. I can feel them and it irritates me. I immediately bought ArmorSuit HD screen protector the next day. It went on nicely, and I could barely see it; however, after using it 2 days, I ripped it off. It made the screen look a little more blurry to me, but my main issue was the way it felt. I have never used screen protectors on my iPhones or iPads, so I decided to just do without. I am enjoying not having that protector feeling over the glass now. I guess I will see how well the screen holds up to wear and tear.

Screen protectors at Best Buy for $19.99, and they will install. Plus there are all others for sale on e-bay.

Hmm, that's funny everyone is getting scratches. I have the same model as you and I have not yet gotten a scratch. Maybe because I ordered mine after preorders and it game on May 28. I'll keep posting if mine happens to get a scratch. Worried now.

"Everyone" is not getting scratches. I've had mine since 24 April, worn every day, no scratches. At least one other person has posted to the same effect in this thread. Not to mention the millions of watch owners who haven't posted anywhere.

    Stop fretting.

Just noticed today that I have a bunch of scratches on the edges of my Black Sport Apple Watch.    Considering I have only had mine for 3 weeks this is kind of disheartening.  I sit at a desk all day for work, so must have been that I brushed up against something and didn't notice.   Either way a major bummer.

I guess I will do as everyone suggests and try to get Apple to change the glass out.

Just for the statistics: Have my sports watch since 3 weeks and got a clearly visible scratch in the center after 2 weeks.

Yup, same here. Had it about a week and it's developed its first screen scratch.

    Deeply unimpressed after spending £350.

After scratching my first watch (and the aluminum case) within the first 48 hours of owning my first watch, I decided it was either return it, or come up with an alternative.  Because I really like the watch and its functions, I decided to give the Spiegel Rugged Armor case a shot.  I also put on a screen protector underneath. I realize this is a lot of hoops to jump through, but I'm very pleased with the results.

Let's be honest.  A watch is prone to banging things.  If you don't protect the watch with a bumper (like most sport watches have), then you can't expect it to not be scratched.

I recommend this case to everyone (not the Spiegel Thin Fit that clips on the top -- I lost that in a week).  Get the Rugged Armor case.

    Here's a picture:

    Hope this helps.

i have the crystal watch version (not the gold watch) - being paranoid about scratches i put a screen protector on it - there are several available now both film and tempered glass - just search amazon - many of them are not edge to edge so they dont cover the entire screen - Spigen and Armorsuit make ones that do - ive used them both - they work fine but can be a pain to out on - although once on they are almost invisible
