May 21, 2015 10:25 AM in response to Jcannonbby Pappasbike,I wasn't aware of this issue at the time but after the update my Messages started going off on the phone first then some time later on the watch. Because I read that someone else fixed this by un-paring and re-pairing the watch with the phone I went ahead and did this. It did fix the issue but caused me a lot of problems so I'm not recommending this unless you're prepared to deal with the issues you may encounter.
However after reading about the heart rate issue I've been checking my Health App on my phone and it's working perfectly - every 10 minutes is recorded and shown for the last two days straight. So whether I didn't have the issue after the update or my un-pairing fixed it I don't know. One simple thing that could be tried and fixed some things for others is to just do a hard reset on both the phone and the watch

May 21, 2015 10:30 AM in response to Pappasbikeby prk60091,unpairing and re-pairing did not help my situation
hard re=set on both did not help
there is no magic set of workarounds...this is software bug and Apple will fix it....
What i did was to move the app to the bottom of my glances list so i wouldnt inadvertantly open it and burn my battery (like it did yesterday) - i submitted a bugreport and reported feedback..
what i am going to do is not worry about it until until they issue 1.0.2

May 21, 2015 10:33 AM in response to Jcannonbby Wayner83,I just received a phone call from someone at Apple about this issue after I posted about it on Twitter. They took all of my information, spent about 30 minutes fact gathering, and has had me send them my heart rate information from the Health app to help them diagnose the issue. I was promised a follow up in the next couple of days with an answer to resolve the issue.
In going through the data, we found that it is not reading while actively moving. While sleeping or being very sedentary, it is reading every 10 minutes as it should. However, while even walking while on the phone, it was not reading for well over 30 minutes or more.

May 21, 2015 10:34 AM in response to prk60091by Pappasbike,I have the palm cover issue that nothing else has fixed so I'll be waiting for that one to be fixed. But fortunately the HR function is working perfectly, I probably didn't have the issue before I did the un-pair and still don't thankfully. My fear is that the update that fixes a problem for some will give it to others.

May 21, 2015 10:46 AM in response to prk60091by Shirkrin,Theres seems to be something else wrong with your watch.. even if you have the Glance front and center
your heart rate will only be monitored if the Glance is open and the watch display is turned on.
Go ahead and try it - once the display goes dark so do the sensors (tested in a dark room on my rather delicate wrist ).

May 21, 2015 12:06 PM in response to D'AnconiaCopperby controller2k,I also am seeing the same issue after Watch OS 1.01. I think active use (exercise, active reads) work ok, it's just all the rest of the time. I submitted feedback to Apple. This is quite annoying.

May 21, 2015 1:10 PM in response to Jcannonbby kirkmc,Apple is exchanging mine. I've had lots of problems with the heart rate monitor, both before and after the update. I've outlined them in this article on my website:
This Is What Happens When an Apple Watch’s Heart Rate Sensor Doesn’t Work Correctly

May 21, 2015 1:36 PM in response to millerrh512by spencereholtaway,I was thinking something like this, however if that is the case, it hasn't successfully logged my heart rate while walking to work for two days in a row (so my heart rate spread in the health app only shows resting heart rate). Worked great prior to 1.0.1 so pretty sure it's not that I'm "wearing it wrong" or anything.

May 21, 2015 1:47 PM in response to kirkmcby D'AnconiaCopper,How long did they say a replacement would take to reach you? I wonder if Apple Stores have replacement stock now.
-
May 21, 2015 1:53 PM in response to D'AnconiaCopperby kirkmc,Since I have AppleCare, I'm getting an "express replacement," where they send me the new one, put a hold for its value on my credit card, and then I send the faulty one back. And the Apple person said I should get the new one in 2-3 business days, that the have a number of them put aside for replacements.

May 21, 2015 11:31 PM in response to Jcannonbby jpatricknars, hey guys,
got surprised when I checked my heart rate in the health app just now. I took off the watch from it's charger lastnight at around 1:00 am and put the watch on my bedside table and based on the health data, the watch took readings by itself during the time I was asleep! anybody else experience this??
I also checked my history and this is the first time it happened. That's why when I woke up, the bettery was down from 100 to when I took it off the charger to 91 when I woke up.
