Q: macbook pro and bluetooth

I have a 2011 MBP running the latest OS....  For whatever reason, devices do not stay paired when connected via Bluetooth.  What gives?  I have not researched this fully yet, but I have looked now and again when I try to pair something and get extremely frustrated when they don't stay connected, but have yet to find anything specific.  The device I try to pair most frequently is a Bluetooth speaker....albeit a cheap one, but nevertheless it never stays paired anymore.  I think it did initially, so I have a feeling some OS update did this.  I also cannot keep my Galaxy S5 paired with it either....just as a comparison.

Any ideas?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 8gb ram

The issue with the Bluetooth speaker is one thing. The MacBookPro is not designed to pair with a Galaxy phone. There is no support for a pairing of that type.

I could swear I had connected my Galaxy at one time....maybe not, it has been a long time since I tried.

So, no ideas about the speaker connectivity?  Do i need to buy a speaker  from the Apple store or what....?  Did not think it should be that big a deal.

Actually I remember now, it does pair, but you really can't do anything....

By some fluke you may have connected the two, but you are right, they won't do anything, as I said it isn't supported. As far as the speaker is concerned, you provide no information, so it could be anything. I've provided a link to a support document regarding 3rd party Bluetooth device troubleshooting. You can take a look at that and see if it helps. Usually, taking the time to forget devices and then putting them back into discovery/pairing mode will correct Bluetooth issues. See what happens. Set up and use third-party Bluetooth accessories - Apple Support

Well, in regards to the Galaxy connecting, I am usually able to pair it when doing so through the Galaxy Bluetooth settings, not v.v....  Anyways, that is not something I can change, so no  use in going on about it.

As far as the speaker is concerned, it is an iWave Bluetooth Speaker.  Did not think the brand was relevant. I have tried unpairing/forgetting the device etc...  It does not make any difference.  I have had it work fine paired with my Galaxy.

I will peruse the documentation you have provided.....

    Thanks

Ok, that link was to pair devices with an iOS device.... not a MacBook Pro....

It can still help. The use of pairing Bluetooth devices is the same. All you need to determine is how to put the two devices into discovery/pairing mode. I'm not a Mac user, but I know how to do it for my Windows computer. Check the User Guide for your MacBook Pro to set it up, then put the speaker into discovery/pairing mode by using the user guide for the speaker.

Not really man....that document didn't tell me anything I didn't already know about connecting Bluetooth devices.

I have tried all the different settings and troubleshooting, etc...  I know how to make my devices discoverable.  I know how to pair and unpair and forget devices.   I have an Android watch and it is paired and works with my Galaxy and I have reset it and unpaired it and everything.... I have a pretty good idea of how the stuff works.  This is beyond that.  This is a speaker.  It has an On/Off switch and buttons for playing music, i.e. play, stop, skip and volume controls.  It is always discoverable, there is no way to make it not discoverable.  My MBP "sees" the speaker.  It has been paired to it.  It will not stay connected.  There is something more going on....

According to this page http://osxdaily.com/2014/12/30/bluetooth-discovery-problem-fix-os-x-yosemite/ there have been plenty of Bluetooth issues with Yosemite and supposedly fixed in 10.10....  and it seems as though the problems continue.
