Q: Working Wacom Drivers for Yosemite?

I had this same problem when I upgraded to Mavericks and now it happens again with Yosemite. My old Wacom tablets no longer work. With Mavericks, only one of the legacy drivers would work. Some version in the middle (not the latest). With Yosemite, I can't get anything to work. Either it won't load the preference pane after install or it doesn't see anything connected.

I have two Wacom Tablets:

  • Intuos 2 XD-0608-U
  • Intuos GD-0608-U

Has anyone had any luck with getting an old Wacom to work? As before, Wacom doesn't seem interested in updating their drivers for legacy users. It's a shame because the equipment itself still works great. Any 3rd party alternative drivers out there?

I can't be the only one with this problem. Maybe if we put our brains together on this thread, we can find a solution.

Thank you very much! Your advice to delete several items from the library solved the problem that my driver for intuos 5 did not work on yosemite. Now everything is fine ... so far.

    Thank you Dan,

My Intuos 4 on Yosemite upgrade finally working!

After several failed attempts following the video from wacom, removing and reinstalling various drivers versions, rebooting, etc

I finally followed Dan in NC's instructions to delete all the wacom library files, then

    Installed Driver 6.3.10-w2 for Mac OS X v. 10.8, 10.9 & 10.10

    Works perfectly now. So relieved.

Thanks The Hefster! This worked on Yosemite 10.10.3 using the Tablet_6.3.11-3a driver!

Now onward to get my Epson 3880 driver working again!

Wacum, on their site, does describe how to update their drivers when Apple does in update, but it does not go into detail so I called them and asked a real person how to do it. Then I wrote down, in detail, exactly what I had to do, step by step. This is for the Bamboo Capture, but I suspect you follow the same steps, just making sure you download the correct driver for your Tablet. Call Wacum to ask exactly which driver is the one for your tablet.

How to update your Wacum Tablet with a Mac update: these exact directions are for a Bamboo Capture and Yosemite

You first want to save (backup) your Wacom Tablet preferences, like what right clicking on mouse does when connected to your tablet and what your pen preferences are. If your tablet preferences are set to DEFAULT, don't worry about saving them. If you have changed from default to something different go to your

Applications folder > double click Wacom Utility > current user >backup > save  ( saving it just as it is, puts the preferences in the Wacom Utility folder with that day's date so you can find the latest preferences.)

Do the same thing again as above but this time, instead of leaving "Wacom Tablet," click on up/down arrow next to "Wacom Tablet", and change it to "Documents". At bottom left of page, click on NEW FOLDER and create a "Wacom folder", click CREATE and then save to that folder. Now you have a double backup of your latest preferences.

You are set to Download Yosemite

Once you are running on Yosemite you have the Bamboo Tablet Drive that no longer works.

You want to remove the old Bamboo software. So go to:

Applications folder > double click Wacom Utility > current user >tablet software> remove

OK! Now you want to install the newest Wacum Drive for your Bamboo Tablet

Go to    http://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/mac/consumer/pentablet 5.3.6-6.dmg  This is the new driver software for Yosemite from Wacom for Bamboo Tablets. You can also get to the software by going to www.us.wacom.com/en/support/drivers  and scroll down to Bamboo Tablets...not Pads, be careful not to click on the wrong download. This will begin the download on your Mac which will show up in the upper right hand corner of the home screen, as an arrow pointing down. Click on the arrow, choose the top download and double click. Follow the instructions that come up.

Now you want to make sure the new software knows your preferences. Go to your DOCUMENTS > wacom Tablet (that you set up as per above instructions ) > latest preferences  ( which should say "Preferences.tabletprefs") > double click  which should update your preferences in Yosemite.

If that doesn't work, go to Applications folder > Wacom Utility > double click >  click on current user > click on RESTORE that should put your preferences back into your computer.

I was able to get it working by installing the latest drivers, then going into /Library/Application Support/Tablet/WacomTabletDriver and double clicking WacomTabletDriver.app.

Once that opened, it opened Wacom Desktop Center.app, and then the driver started working. Seems like the postInstall for the driver isn't doing what it should be doing and launching that. =/

Before that success, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. =/

Stazeii, I did that and that's exactly what was needed to work but when I restarted my computer, it did not work again.

Ok guys, i figured out what to do.... Most of you have been able to install an older driver which interacts with the device but doesn't allow you to calibrate it.

Here is what i was able to do...

I logged into a different system (Snow Leopard, in this case)... There, the drivers obviously work fine... Simply export your preference file.... I actually made 2 preference files... One, for a single monitor, and one, for a dual monitor setup.....    Now, just make these preference files accessible to your Yosemite system...

In the Wacom Restore utility on the Yosemite install, just navigate to your previously saved preference files, and it will calibrate from there..... button mappings, screen mappings... whatever you saved....

My tablet is a Intros GD1212u.   The driver on Yosemite is 6.1.5.2  (was not able to access my old preference files using the suggested 6.2.0w4,so i had to use an even older drive.

Many thanks to Dan in NC for the advice that saved my tablet (and peace of mind)

I have an old Intuos GD as well. I no longer have my settings, but it's pressure sensitive & works in Photoshop. That's all I ask! Yay!

This worked for me to.  I searched all over and couldn't believe how hard it was to find an answer.  I have the CTH-470 Bamboo pen and tablet with wireless bluetooth kit.  I went to system preference clicked on wacom and removed it from the preferences.  Then went to the legacy drivers page http://us.wacom.com/en/support/legacy-drivers/ and installed version 5.3.5-4 and it worked when I reconnected my tablet I was able to get the pen preferences to work.  I was going to be so mad if I had to buy a new bamboo tablet.  Hope this helps someone else.

Maybe this will help someone with an Intuos2 with a new Imac 5k.

I have an intuos2 that was working on a macbook pro 10.8 with a dual screen, the only options I wanted to set up were the mapping (since the dual screen is very wide and the intuos2 4/3 I need to use a more panoramic area on the tablet) and the pen clicks, I use 3D software and setting a "middle mouse" click is mandatory.

I installed the latest drivers, tablet not supported, I uninstalled, and reinstalled the legacy drivers 6.2.0w4. Tablet worked but with default settings. The preference pane doesn't open.

I exported my previous settings from my laptop and imported them, it's all working now like before. The mapping is ok and the pen clicks too. On the 5k screen without any trouble.

I was afraid the mapping or else would not translate well, it did. I read all the post here and was very concerned about having to buy a new pen tablet. On a side note, now the preference pen DOES OPEN, I drop down menus don't show any options they say "empty", but the pressure indicator, work. SO it's obvious there is absolutely no technology issue or real OS issues, Wacom want us to poor a bit more money in their business while our hardware is still perfectly working and I'm sure 100% compatible. SHAME ON THEM. Of course they have no real competitors, they won't care too much... about our complains...
