Dec 20, 2014 7:49 AM in response to Giboxby neal103,I tried all the software "fixes" with no joy.
I decided to open up my iPhone 5 myself (it was out of warranty anyway) to see if there was anything loose I could fix. And yes, the camera seemed to have come loose somehow and simply by pushing it firmly it did physically click. At first I thought the click was probably just me breaking something, but when I tried the camera again it worked perfectly.
This might not be the most common issue, but if you've dropped your phone a couple of times, then it's possible the camera may have become disconnected inside the phone. If your phone is out of warranty, you may as well open it up and give this a try. You just need a small screwdriver to remove 2 screws and a suction pad to take the front cover off. You can get these as part of an iPhone repair kit (about £3 in the UK).
I seen other suggestions on this thread to press firmly on the camera from the outside. I did try this and it didn't work for me, but it makes some sense that this might work for some people if the camera isn't as loose as mine was.

Jan 12, 2015 8:40 AM in response to Giboxby kammili,I Have the same problem. i had the phone for over 2 years no luck with warranty... Apple ruled out software fault and told me its hardware and will cost £199 to get it replaced. I have lost all my faith in Apple after using them for over 6 years, I use all apple products - iPad, MacBook & iMac so this is a major let down especially having a 7 month old baby, I would want to take his snaps and record videos from phone but hey nooo I cannot inspire of having an iphone! Ridiculous, Apple better sort out such issues to loyal customers like me...

Jan 21, 2015 12:25 PM in response to Giboxby Jackystan,Hey Guys,
Ive been having this issue for the last few days. I looked about and a lot of people said to try pressing the camera slightly but this didn't work.
I have just updated to the latest IOS and this has solved the problem!
Hopefully this works for you

Jan 26, 2015 11:16 PM in response to Giboxby crourke18,Tried all of the workarounds and "fixes" on this thread with no luck. My rear camera stopped working a few hours after I got the most recent update. I've had my iPhone 5s since August and this is the first issue I've had with it. Any other suggestions?

Mar 17, 2015 12:14 AM in response to ariel sby georginacdawson,Hi,
My iPhone camera has stopped working, it just goes blank- but is still able to film.
When I try to switch it to camera it just freezes and I have to quit the camera app.
I have tried switching on and off but this doesn't help. Is this a problem that can be fixed with a restore?
Or does it sound more serious?
Thanks

Jul 27, 2015 12:11 PM in response to Giboxby DarkoGjakovski,I have tried everything, and the only thing that worked was pressing the right front top corner. But that worked for just a few days, and then, all black again. I have been waiting for a "miracle" for two weeks, but no luck! So today, finally, I got my rear camera replaced, now it's working perfectly again, I'm glad I did this, because It costed only 20$, and I have a perfect camera again after so long.
