Q: Album doesn't show up in iCloud

I love Apple aps but iCloud photo is enough to drive me to distraction. I created a photo album in Photos on my Macbook Pro. I selected the album, selected share and then sent emails to those I wanted to share with. People are getting the notifications and, I assume, are seeing the photos. However, if I go to my iCloud account the album is not there. I selected "Public Website" in settings and I can access the photos through the website but if I go iCloud, log in to my account, and go to Photos - no album. Where the heck is the blasted thing? Why can't I access it directly in my iCloud account?

What do you mean when you go to your iCloud account and go to Photos? Are you referring to the Photos application? In Photos, you must go to the Shared Album section to view the albums.

Are you using the iCloud Photo Library?

I shared the album with the Photos application in Yosemite. When I go to iCloud in Safari there are a number of icons from which to select - Mail, Calendar, Pages, etc., and one of them is "Photos." When I select Photos, it takes me to a window with two options at the top - Moments and Albums. When I select Albums, there is a section labeled My Albums. There is an old album there but the one I just shared is not. I had assumed, maybe wrongly, that albums I elected to share through the Photos application would somehow be accessible in my iCloud account.

When you say "In Photos, you must go to the Shared Album section to view the albums" are you referring to Photos in iCloud or the Photos application in Yosemite? There is a Shared category on the left hand side in the Photo application and the album I shared shows up there but in iCloud there is nothing labeled "Shared Album."

The Shared Albums do not show on your iCloud webpage at www.cloud.com. You can only see them on the public website, or using the applications Photos, iPhoto, or aperture, or in the Photos.app on your mobile devices.

Yes, I was referring to the application.

Shared albums to my knowledge will not show at iCloud.com. They should show on your devices in the Photo app.

So, as best I can tell, if I send an invitation to someone with a Mac, when they subscribe by clicking on the option in the email they receive the shared album will show up as a shared album in their Photos application or, I hope, iPhoto for those that have not upgraded to Yosemite. It looks like I can send an email to all with the web address for the website for the photos. Seems like a convoluted way to create a shared album. If I can create a website when sharing I don't really understand why it doesn't show up in iCloud. The Gallery feature with MobileMe sure was easier and more seamless or am I wrong?

    Yes

Yes, the public address will put the photos available to anyone with or without Photos, iPhoto, etc. or windows computers. The public website is completely different than your iCloud login website. Anyone with the address can view it and they don't need to subscribe to i

As to why it doesn't show at the iCloud website you login to, I don't know. It's apple's decision.

I've never used the gallery feature of mobile me. So I don't know anything about it.

The Mobile Me galleries were perfect. Easy to create and to maintain.  And iWeb was the best web editor ever. Apple has still no adequate replacement for the web publishing part of Mobile Me and iWeb.

It is not really complicated. You create the album in Photos once, add the email addresses of the persons to invite, and Photos will send an invitation with the link to the page. Then simply add photos to your Shared album as you go. You can always see it in Photos and don't need to check the public webpage. Only the persons who know the link can see it.  Don't put the link to the public webpage onto a page, that is linked somewhere. Otherwise web crawlers can find it, and your friends may not want to see the photos and comments they add on a public page.

Thanks for the reply. It would be nice if they made that abundantly clear in the information provided (although I may have missed it).
