Q: Old phone to new phone can't find my Restore Backup! HELP

I recently got a (old) new iPhone 4s

I backed up my old 4s on my iTunes and then switched my sims card to the new one

When I plugged the new phone in to back it up all the recent restores are from 2013 and
I can't find the newly restore backup from my old phone to put on my new phone

 

Did i do something wrong? the new phone shows updates from 2013

When I plug my old phone in it shows my recent restore backup from today.

 

How do I get my old phones recent restore back up to restore on my new phone??

 

If i switch to backup via iCloud and hit Restore Back up

will it just back up my info via icloud and not the old phone?

 

Please help!

    Is it possible the backup you did with the "old" phone had a newer iOS than the "new" phone? You cannot put a newer iOS backup on an older iOS device. You may have to update the "new" phone.

    You said that you can see the backup for the old phone. How are you seeing this? Are you in iTunes? Is the iOS on that phone you have plugged in the same as the one you are trying to restore to? You plug the phone you are trying to restore and can no longer "see" that backup? Are you sure the iOS on the two devices is the same? It seems you may be trying to rely on the name of the phone to locate the backup rather than the date itself.
