May 26, 2015 10:01 AM in response to gblumeby Linc Davis,Back up all data. If you have iCloud calendars, archive them by following the instructions on this page under the heading "Downloading a calendar from iCloud.com." All you need is a web browser, not the Calendar application. Do the same with any other network calendars you have, if possible.
Before taking each of these steps, quit (force quit if necessary) the application. After taking the step, relaunch and test. When the problem is resolved (or when you complete Step 3 without resolving it), stop and close the Library folder.
Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
Go â–¹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. From the folder that opens, move these items (some may not exist) to the Trash, leaving the Library folder open:
Calendars/Calendar Cache
Calendars/Calendar Cache-shm
Calendars/Calendar Cache-wal
Step 2
Move these files from the Library folder to the Desktop (again, some may not exist):
Containers/com.apple.CalendarAgent (and any others with a name beginning in "com.apple.Calendar")
Containers/com.apple.iCal (and any others with a name beginning in "com.apple.iCal")
Preferences/com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist
Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
If the problem is resolved, you may be able to put back some of the items you moved in this step, relaunching and testing after each one. Eventually you may find the one that caused the problem; delete it. Recreate your settings as necessary.
If the problem still isn't solved, put back each of the items you moved in this step, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. You don't have to put back the files you moved in Step 1.
Step 3
Move this folder to the Desktop:
Calendars
Note: you're not moving the Calendars application; you're moving a folder named "Calendars". If there's no change, put the folder back where it was.
If the problem is resolved after you move the Calendars folder, the event database is corrupt. You have these choices:
Restore the folder from a Time Machine snapshot or other backup that predates the corruption.
Use a third-party application such as Calendar Cleaner to try to repair the database.
For network calendar accounts, such as iCloud, all you should need to do is re-enter them in the preferences. For subscribed calendars, you only need to re-subscribe.

Jun 15, 2015 11:41 PM in response to Linc Davisby wflgng,I have the same problem, see my macbook pro calendar keeps reverting back to "new event" every time i make and entry. on average i have to enter and event 3 times before it accepts and post on my calendar. how do i fix this?
I tried Step 1 - this did not help. I did not try Step 2 and Step 3, because I'm wary of re-entering preferences, or the risk of losing data. Indeed, nobody indicated that Steps 1 to Steps 3 resolved the problem...
Also note:
1) I have the same problem on a 2nd Mac, with Calendar events in sync between the two machines via iCloud. Same problem there.
2) the trouble is only with entries to iCloud calendars. Entries to eXchange calendars are fine. But I need my iCloud calendars
3) other discussion lists on this problem suggest to re-set the calendar Refresh settings (from Push to 1 Min, or from 1 Min to 5 Min). This did not help.
4) I noticed that whenever I try to make an entry in Calendar, the console shows the following error message:
16/06/15 08:30:07,150 Calendar[13612]: [com.apple.calendarui.log.locations] [Couldn't find current location with error Error Domain=CalLocationErrorDomain Code=1 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (CalLocationErrorDomain error 1.)"]
No idea what that means, no idea how to fix it.
Anybody has other suggestions?

Jun 16, 2015 4:00 PM in response to wflgngby Tryswitch,This has been happening to me but only for a month or two...no significant software changes in that time. It is intermittent - sometimes a new event sticks as entered but usually it does not. And the sync via iCloud is less reliable than it was - all very time-wasting.
Apple needs to fix this!
Has anyone called Apple Support for a personal solution? I don't have time for this...

Jun 21, 2015 8:57 AM in response to Tryswitchby Eric Root,Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

Jun 21, 2015 9:27 AM in response to gblumeby Virginia Bruce,Linc, that seems like a drastic solution for something that's beginning to look like a bug! Any idea if Apple is working on a solution, an update so we won't have to go through those steps? After all, not having to **** with the system is why many of us are Mac fans!

Jun 21, 2015 11:30 PM in response to Linc Davisby wflgng,...for lack of alternatives, I've tried Steps 2 and Steps 3 described in the post of Linc Davis. This did not help.
Indeed, linking Calendar with my iCloud data from a new user account (certainly no corrupted pref files or databases in this case) resulted in the exact same problem with new events reverting back to "New Event". So it's not a problem with files on my hard disk, it's a problem with iCloud. The observation that creating events in an eXchange calendar works just fine confirms that conclusion,
cheers,

Jun 22, 2015 1:01 AM in response to wflgngby Tryswitch,It's definitely an iCloud problem...the time it takes for the data I enter to disappear is 5-10 seconds, about the time for an iCloud sync - iCloud is pushing back a blank new event instead of recording the new data. Totally unreliable, I have tried modifying the event, which calendar it's in, the reminders, etc. - still most new events are blanked out and only stick after 2 or 3 entries. Has anyone called Apple Support? I will try to find time to do that this week.

Jun 22, 2015 9:50 AM in response to Tryswitchby Dewdman42,I've been having the same problem suddenly in the past month or two, its been driving me crazy. Sometimes the event seems to stick and I come back later to find out it didn't and I have to try to remember what the **** I entered there. I think its probably iCloud related, but I can't confirm that, I just know it started happening a month or two ago and nothing I do seems to resolve it.

Jun 22, 2015 6:25 PM in response to Dewdman42by Tryswitch,I have a solution!
I finally made time to call Apple today, took awhile but they had me use Disk Utility and that seems to have fixed the problem. If you haven't run that in awhile, try this.
1) Shut down, then turn on holding Command + R; choose language (English) when you get to that screen. This boots your computer with nothing running but Disk Utility. (Also available in Application/Utilities)
2) In Disk Utility run (in order) Verify Permissions, Repair Permissions, Verify Disk, Repair Disk - allow at least an hour to do all of this and don't do anything else on the computer while this is running. Click to show details and you can see if any errors are being found. I had over 100 permissions errors it had to fix.
3) If that does not fix the calendar problem, you will probably have to either entirely reinstall OS 10.9.5, or upgrade to Yosemite.

Jun 22, 2015 6:42 PM in response to Tryswitchby Virginia Bruce,I am going to wait a little longer to see if Apple finds an iCloud solution.
The last calendar entry I made worked fine. As long as I'm watchful, I don't end up with too many "New Events." That is a PIA though when it happens!
I use Disk Utility regularly to "repair' the same suspects each time, so not sure how much good that is.

Jun 22, 2015 7:05 PM in response to Virginia Bruceby Tryswitch,The other tip to try, from Apple, is to open iCloud in your browser, view the calendar, then enter an event in Calendar and watch iCloud to see if the event appears there at all, changes to New Entry, etc. That could indicate whether iCloud is, or isn't, the culprit.
You can also try signing out of iCloud, and seeing if the problem still happens in your calendar.
Like you, I find it's a frustrating problem because it occurs intermittently...so far I think Disk Utility repairs fixed the problem for me, but YMMV.

Jun 25, 2015 11:42 AM in response to gblumeby Virginia Bruce,Well, this seems to have stopped happening. I bet someone fixed something. would be nice to get an acknowledgement or some kind of post on here...is that totally improbable?

Jun 25, 2015 4:34 PM in response to Virginia Bruceby Tryswitch,I'm sorry to report that it is still happening to me - about 1 event in 4 fails to save. I guess I will have to upgrade to Yosemite, but I can't until I get my 3rd party apps updated etc. etc. - and it has to be in a week when I have no deadlines (good luck!) because SOMETHING is sure to break.
