May 26, 2015 10:32 AM in response to JohnFTby ChrisJ4203,If you connect the device to the computer that you normally sync to and it still asks for the passcode, there is nothing you will be able to do. You will only be able to use the latest backup you already have. There is no other method to enter the passcode to unlock the screen.

May 26, 2015 10:40 AM in response to JohnFTby Drew Reece,Go to an Apple store & see if they will replace the screen, some larger stores are apparently doing screen replacements for situations like this. Apple also offer to exchange the device for broken parts, make sure that they are not offering you this service because your data will not be transferred to the new device.
Another option is to try a third party replacement. iFixit.com sells screens & has guides for replacing the parts. Otherwise find a local store or service that can replace the screen for you. These 2 options will void any warranty & Apple will stop supporting the device once they see that parts have been replaced.
