Q: mp3/aac file generated by compressor 4.2 is corrupted/unusable

I bought compressor because I thought it would have solved the problem I have bee having with FCPX, alas still the same

I have created an audio-only clip in FCPX. When I export it (via compressor) to mp3 or aac, the file contains corrupted sound. Have tried various settings. When played in FCPX or compressor the sound is perfect.

Any ideas anyone? This is urgent $#%# please

Corrupted file as in causing the player to crash when it's played, or do you mean distorted?

What kind of source file is it? Where did it originate from?

Have you tried any third party solutions?

    Hi!

thanks for the quick reaction. distorted. The original source comes as wav file captured with a zoom h4n at 44kHz.

The import and transcoding seems to have worked flawlessly--FCPX can play it perfectly.

Is this coming out of a video project? Does the project use the video sample rate of 48K? Never a good idea to shoot with the Zoom using 44.1. Always convert to 48K before syncing it or using it in a project. Any chance you can post a piece of the original media to test it and maybe find a solution?

So I assume the original was a WAV.

Was it then synced with a video clip, and if so, to what format and in which app…in FCP or another application?

Are  you first exporting from FCP X and then adding that as the source file to Compressor or using the Send to Compressor method?

Sorry for all the questions, but from your description it sounds like a compression went wrong prior to bringing into Compressor.

    Hi Tom,

this audio only. How do I convert the audio to 48K? Never had trouble with 44.1 before, however, this is the first time I do audio only. All previous projects included synching with multicam settings.

Yes, sorry in the typo before. The source is a VAW file.

This is an audio-only clip, entirely in FCPX. I use the "send to compressor" method.

    Thanks for the help,

AAre you exporting directly from the browser or from inside a project? Don't have access to any 44.1 Zoom WAV files until next week, so I can't test it.

I Use a Compressor droplet to convert 44.1 to 48K AIFF.

I tried both cases. first from a project. Then via creating a compound clip and from the browser. Same result.

Thanks for the hint on using a droplet to convert to 48K. Do you expect a big difference?

    Thanks

I Have never used 44.1 audio in video. I always, or almost always, convert it.

I sent a 44.1 WAV (from a Zoom recorder) from the Browser to Compressor and  applied the MP3 preset and had no quality issues.

    BOAH!

    Found it.

Before sharing/exporting you have to make sure NOTHING in the timeline is selected.

Select only the compound clip/project on the browser, then everything works fine.

APPLE: what kind of user interface is this???

Nevermind. problem solved. Client happy. Gosh.

TThe purpose of making a selection in a project is to export part or a piece of a project rather than the whole thing. This is a good thing.

EXporting a section shouldn't make any difference to the quality. Don't understand why you were having quality problems.
