Apr 15, 2015 4:06 PM in response to RJMby mzmabell,Thank you thank you! I'm on vacation and out of nowhere my 5s decides to stop working! No signs of illness before this. Those few steps you suggested worked and my phone is working again! Very upsetting that it happend in the first place, no idea if it has anything to do wit the recent iOS 8.3 update.
Thank you!

Apr 23, 2015 1:32 AM in response to myiphoneisgoldenby johnatherton_uk,Worked well with my 5S after battery being completely discharged.
Plugged iPhone into known working charger.
Turned my ringer function button to "on"
Toggled volume + and - buttons 3 times alternatively.
Held power and home button for 10 seconds.
Let go of both buttons and hey presto iPhone jumps back to life !!
Many thanks for all contributions.

Apr 30, 2015 12:31 PM in response to RJMby MadLettuce,After having a 'sudden death' incident i actually loaded my SIM into an old flip phone. Strange nostalgia, no idea how i would cope as even an SMS would take way me 5 minutes with the old keys!
Found this post so panic over now!
Great fix, the interesting thing is the original post was 2 years ago and the 'sudden death' problem still happens on ios8.3 after 2 years of further development.
Ill take a guess that the button combo must reset whatever firmware boots the (i)OS, thereby solving a million possible scenarios in one go.
Thanks!

May 28, 2015 6:38 AM in response to alepsby gail from maine,Hi aleps,
It probably happens with most phones. It is no different than rebooting a computer. It's an electronic device with electronic parts. Sometimes it needs to be reset just like any electronic item. Have you ever had to turn a printer off and back on to get it working? Reboot a computer? Flip the switch on your router? All the same thing. "Clearing the circuits"....
Cheers,
GB
