Q: Yosemite Photos iCloud photo sharing not working

So I bit the bullet, drank the kool-aid, and converted my primary iPhoto library to Photos with Yosemite 10.10.3.

Overall, fairly impressed, but the iPhoto Shared library has some issues.  I had (have) for shared photo streams from the iPhoto library.  Those still show up on all of the subscribers devices (mobile and desktop).

The first time I started Photos after the conversion, I went to the "Shared" tab and saw textual representation of the shared photo streams were there, but after a period of time, disappeared.  Now, each time I go to the shared tab, it "Scans for recent shared activity", but always comes back as if nothing is shared. and gives the button to "Start Sharing".

I've tried starting new shared streams, modifying one of the old streams from a different device, but absolutely nothing will show the shared streams, nor cal I share anything new.

I have no intention of using the iCloud Photo Library (too expensive for me and not sure I'm that trusting yet).

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?  Anyone else getting the shared photo streams working in Photos?

Thanks!

Now that I have the shared streams working again, I would like to add that I am still seeing an issue with quite a bit of 'white space' where the thumbnail images should be:

    Photos.jpg

When I double-click anywhere in the white space I am taken to wherever that photo should be in it's album/date but still only see lots of white space and strangely, some black thumbnails:

    Photos-1.jpg

If I double click on either a white, or a black thumbnail image the original image will load:

Photos-2.jpgWhen I return to the previous album, I still see the same white and black thumbnails.

I am unable to repair the library either - I used to be have that option when holding down the option (alt) & command keys but now, noting happens and Photos opens normally. I am also noticing that every time I open Photos it nags be about using iPhoto Photo Library even though each time I click on the "not now" option.

I'm not sure if others are experiencing this issue as well and/or  if it's related.

    LaCollision

    Thanks for the info.

    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd

I originally deleted this folder: "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd" (Granted, after deleted this folder I didn't uncheck the options for "My Photo Stream" & "iCloud Photo Sharing" in System Preferences> iCloud and then reenable these options.)

It wasn't until I deleted "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd" (and then unchecked the options for "My Photo Stream" & "iCloud Photo Sharing" in System Preferences> iCloud and then reenabled these options.) that i was able to see my shared streams again.

After trying a disk permissions repair, restarting my Mac and many more attempts to invoke the "repair library" while holding the opt & command keys, I finally got the option to repair:

    Photos-5.jpg

And still, the issue with white and/or black thumbnails remains:

This worked for me. I'm not sure how you found yourself down that rabbit hole of a file path, but it worked. Thanks for diggin'!

I should mention, this problem started after a time machine restore. Shared albums worked fine until then. I did gain 10GB on the ol' hard drive though. Yay, for me.

Cleverfeets, that did the trick for me too. I had to follow your instructions here and then it worked like a charm!

THIS WORKED for me, yay. iPhoto streams are back and syncing up!

I had the same problem on a few Macs I did a TM restore onto. I tried everything and only found one fix. Although I am going to try the ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd fix next time but for the record in case this fix does not work for everyone, I found deleting the profile and setting up a new one fixed it. This only works if you run multiple profiles and it is not particularly convenient as you need to re-tweek the profile to you liking but the shared streams at least start re-syncing.

It’s taken 4 weeks for all my photos to upload to iCloud (15000+ of them: photography is my hobby....just done it overnight): needed to redo all my energy saver settings for the duration) NOW all my pics are "synching  perfectly.....just a 4 week glitch...lol....

I have the same issue. put a TimeMachine backup back after replacing the HD (I now have a SSHD). However, I cannot find the directory you're referring to. I searched all over my HD, but there is no /Users/gerbertgoes/Library/Containers...... directory. I also looked for any of the other folders inside that directory. Nothing...

Any insights you might have to help me out? Thx!

While you have Finder open on your desktop and it is the active window, click 'Go' on the Menu Bar and click 'Go to Folder' and paste in the link provided in the post above:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd

Make sure you have the '~' character at the beginning.

    Then click 'Go'.

After restore with Time Machine a 2nd time. Photos sharing not working (but the first time no problem) !

But it's solved !!! All working after try this :

    Delete this folder : /Users/Gotier/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd

    ...After restart and enjoy !!
