Q: iphone 5 and apple pay not working on watch

Just got an Apple Sport Watch for my wife. She has the iPhone 5. iPhone running iOS 8.3, watch upgraded to 1.01. When you try to add a credit card on the phone in the watch app, it says that the phone cannot be in airplane mode and has to be nearby. Will never allow you to add a credit card, even if the phone is sitting on top of the watch. Everything works fine with my Apple Sport on my iPhone 6+. any ideas for the iPhone 5?

Have you added a password to unlock your watch? Using Apple pay on your watch requires a password to be added to your watch.

Yes, have a password on the watch and have it setup to unlock with phone. Unlocking with phone works fine. My iPhone 6+ and Apple Sport 42mm have worked flawlessly since April 24th. This 32mm Apple Sport is just giving me fits to setup for my wife. I think it is going to have to go into the store.

The activity app works fine. On the iphone watch app, only the apps down to Privacy have artwork, all the rest from there down show not artwork. I think this watch has to go into Apple for a some maintenance. Never thought I would have an Apple product out of the box that did not work.

Fixed, called Apple Support. They had me unpair the watch, turn the phone off. Wait until the watch finished erasing everything and then turn phone back on. Pair the watch and this time everything worked like it was supposed to. Loaded the credit cards and ready to roll. Seems something was amiss with the phone and the bluetooth. All is good in Apple land.
