Q: Does this apply to the 2015 Macbook Air as well?

I used to be able to do this all the time with my 2013 mac book pro & 2010 iMac, but now I have a Retina iMac and a new Mac Book Air and cannot ;(  Any ideas?

 

I'm trying to use the minijack port to record some vinyl
