Q: Update to Apple Watch OS 1.0.1 leading to less frequent heart rate monitoring

After updating my Apple Watch to 1.0.1 my heart rate sensor no longer measures my heart rate every 10 minutes like it did before. This is throwing off my activity measurements. Anyone else having the same problem?

Yep .. Pretty much everyone is.  There is a long thread on the issue on this site and many media reports about It.  No word from Apple about it though.

Please call Apple to report the issue or provide feedback using the link below.

There was a change in the software update with this function. I believe, but there's no way to confirm it, that it now only records your resting HR every 10 minutes. If you've been sitting for a while, say watching an hour or two of tv, maybe a movie, check the data then. On mine after such a period I will see every 10 minutes recorded. However once you get up and start moving around it stops recording, so some of those gaps may be because you began moving around. Anyway this is very consistent on my watch leading me to believe it was a deliberate change. Some of the others have reported more erratic issues and perhaps something was corrupted by the update on those devices.

But for me it's very consistent and actually is just the way I'd want it to be. If I engage one of the activity settings, walk, run, cycle, etc. it records multiple times a minute.

A really, really stupid update for Apple Watch

There has been an update about this issue on the Apple website: Your heart rate. What it means, and where on Apple Watch you’ll find it. - Apple Support

‘Apple Watch attempts to measure your heart rate every ten minutes, but won’t record it when you are in motion or your arm is moving’

Im getting the same battery life performance now as I was before the update (approximately 35-45% remaining at the end of the night). Only now my heart rate is being monitored every hour (at best), sometimes every 4 hours.

Are you telling me that I have to open the activity app when I am mowing the lawn, or gardening, or moving boxes, or doing housework?!!

A lot of daily activities and calories burnt are now not being fully measured because of this change. We move our arms, thats what we do!

We need this to change back, now Apple.
