Q: Yosemite slow, spinning beach ball at every action

Description du problème :

Yosemite worked well for a month or more, until yesterday. I used for the first time a flight simulator downloaded from appstore (for 30 minutes), i don't even know why i did that. After that mbp was really hot. At next start mbp was very slow showing spinningball beach ball at every action (typing, opening folders). I deleted the app, but no improvement was shown. after that i noted there was 10.10.2 upgrade (i had 10.10.1). no improvement. I thought i had to clean a little bit so i downloaded adwaremedic, which found an adware and eliminated it. still no improvement. I finally looked up on support.apple and found plenty of people with this problem and followed intructions: deleted all third party and cleaning programs (fan control and flip4mac wont disappear from system preferences, how to be sure if i uninstalled them right?). anyway still no improvement.

I followed thisguide (Guide: How to solve Yosemite memory leaks and CPU usage) but i'm not sure if i managed to reset smc, as my left **** key doesn't work (i used the right one). still no improvement.

I was thinking about using clamxav (I've read it's the less invasive) to scan the mbp, is it a good idea or not?

might dropbox be a problem (after quitting it, if i try to delete it, it says it's not possible because plugins are in use!)

should i reinstall yosemite? if yes, is it necessary to do a backup?

Please help me. thank you

I reinstalled yosemite from the Recovery HD (restarted holding cmd + R), it took 7 hours! (about 1 hour waiting with "less than a minute remaining" message ) after that finder was fast, but then opened safari  spinning ball returned every 30 seconds. So i looked how to clean internet plugins, removed them and placed in another folder (as suggested here: Which plug-ins to remove to fix Safari?). i only left there

    • /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Default Browser.plugin
    • /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
    • /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Quartz Composer.webplugin
    • /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin

as indicated here: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues - Apple Support

finally i disactivated icloud for safari, photos and icloud drive. as suggested here: safari and spinning beach ball

Please some one help me solve this! as you see i'm doing my best looking for answers in other post, but they don't seem to work!

i now have still 3 questions:

    1. should i try to reset smc again? if yes, how can i do it with left shift key not working? i tried many times with right shift key, but seems not to be working!

    2. is clean installation the only remaining possibility? because at the moment i don't have any external drive to back up!

    3. going back to maverick could help my mbp return working?

please anybody help me, i just want it to work 30 seconds whitout that spinning ball, i'm getting crazy

    Applications
Jan 30, 2015 4:31 PM in response to iiiRod

When you see the beachball, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

    thanks for your answer.

now i might have another problem as the mac book pro won't boot, showing on gray screen a "prohibited" sign alternate with a folder with a question mark on it.

i've heard about this problem with yosemite and ssd with trim, but i don't have trim!

    what should i do now?

thank you very much for your time!

Hi late update here: problem was solved by changing the HD cable which was causing troubles (at first slow computer with spinning beach ball, then at boot gray screen with a "prohibited" sign alternate with a folder with a question mark on it).

For someone having this issue my advice is to try to remove the HD and connect it via usb, then try to boot from it. If it works then the problem is clearly not the HD but only the cable, and the rest of the hardware should be ok. Hope this will help someone in the future.
