Q: Photos for mac *****

I just started using Photos on my iMac and was really enjoyed that I cannot sort pictures like I want them to be sorted, by name, or any other way.

Furtermore I cannot open the pictures, from within the application, in another application. I used iPhoto more  like a collection tool and did most of the editing in Photoshop or Pixelmator, but that is impossible now or I have to export the pictures, edit them and then import them again.

Not a good app at all.

Please Apple, do something about this.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), 500 Gb, 16 Gb Ram

You are not talking to Apple here, just to other users like yourself.

To send comments about the Photos app to Apple use the form at https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

You must not forget iPhoto was an old nightmare begging to be replaced. Photos is still in Beta and is supposed to replace iPhoto. At the moment it's missing loads of features but they will be added over time. (Geolocation editing etc) It's a complete rebuild so it will get better.

I think in a month at WWDC there will be an update fixing some of the issues so we just have to be patient at the moment and wait for all features to be ported over.

Hello, thanks for the quick answer.

I am aware that the support forum has nothing to do with Apple and did complain as you suggested with Apple.

I only added my complaint here so other users would know that this app is far from good, and far from what iPhoto was.

I also think that Apple should announce what they are going to do, before launching the app to everyone.

It is very good however that we still can use iPhoto.

I, in fact have just deleted all my libraries in Photo, and started again with iPhoto.

Actually they did, among other places here & in the 'what's new' section on the Mac App Store Yosemite page. Of course, if you have System Preferences > App Store set to automatically install OS X updates, you may never have seen any of that.

    Photos is still in Beta-

No - Photos is not in Beta - it was released with OS X 10.10.3 - I'm sure there will be updates - you can tell Apple your desired - https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

Or you can continue to use iPhoto if you are up to date with version 9.6.1 - if not see Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

    Hello again,

thanks for this info, I had indeed my preferences in the Appstore on automatically download.

And I never looked at the info about the App since I thought it was only for OSx devices.

    Good advise

Your iMac *IS* an OS X device; Yosemite is OS X 10.10.x.

Did you mean you thought it was only for iOS devices (like iPhones and iPads)? An app named Photos did appear on iOS before the corresponding OS X application debuted with Yosemite 10.10.3, but they were announced at the same time.

Sorry, my mistake, meant that it was only for iOS devices
