May 30, 2015 2:36 PM in response to PeterBreis0807by sudirende,Are you being snide? I went to my applications folder. Found Pages. Only saw one version, as far as I could tell. It didn't open the file. The rest of the instructions I found just confused me. Help is appreciated, rhetorical questions with ?! not so much.
I found a workaround which I offered to others who are stuck like me and lack the information that I guess you think is obvious.

May 31, 2015 12:48 AM in response to sudirendeby PeterBreis0807,The full instructions have been posted here multiple times, here it is again for the third time in this thread:
Pages 5.5.3 is in your Applications folder
Pages '08/'09 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
Or you can use Spotlight to search your Mac.
No need nor point to eMail it to yourself

May 31, 2015 4:18 AM in response to sudirendeby VikingOSX,If you right-click (control-click/two-finger tap) on a Pages document icon, you will see Open with at the top of this contextual menu. With Pages v5 (any release) installed, the default will be this version of Pages. However, if you have Pages '09 also installed, it will appear further down on this menu as Pages (4.3).
In your list view of the Applications folder, Pages '09 if installed, will be in the iWork '09 folder as Pages.app.

May 31, 2015 4:56 AM in response to VikingOSXby sudirende,I don't have Pages 5 in any form on this computer. Not installed. I am traveling, so the problem is that the documents I'm trying to open from my Dropbox folder created by my desktop cannot be opened by the Pages on my laptop. Hence, my workaround of emailing myself the files from my mobile device. If anyone else in in the same boat they can use it.

May 31, 2015 12:41 PM in response to sudirendeby PeterBreis0807,"iWorks" appears before "Licence" so not sure what your screenshot proves other than you have dumped some very odd files in your Applications folder, such as .rtf, .pdf and .dmg files.
You don't have any version of Pages in that shot, although Pages 5 and Numbers 3 should be there if you installed them, heaven knows where you have moved them or why, or whether you ever had them.
We can't see if you have MsWord and you never said what version of OSX you are running so we don't know what you are opening your Word .doc file with or what result you are getting. TextEdit will do it.
Your instructions to anyone else with a similar problem are not useful because you have not explained your set-up, which applications you have installed on what version of OSX nor what the actual end result is with whatever application it is that you are actually opening your file with.

Jun 22, 2015 10:08 AM in response to PeterBreis0807by Andrea winchester,Thank you for saving me hours of work. I have left a review of the newest version of Pages. It is so painful to see my beloved platform suffer under these decisions to "simplify" programs by removing vital features with no regard for the loyal users.

Aug 15, 2015 8:17 AM in response to KBroughtonby Izzi65,THANK YOU so much for this tip...it worked for me. I am running Yosemite on an iMac and Pages '09 v 4.3. I did tests with old pages files on a frriends iMac before installing Yosemite and seemed to open ok. This file was created in June and now needs to be edited, so have not opened it since then. Panic ensued but this tip has helped me,as I am afraid I did not really folllow the more detailed info and would have needed to get help..currently not available..so this lets me get back to work. Thanks everyone.

Sep 11, 2015 3:42 AM in response to bbigssorby PTBatman,I had the same problem so I sent the file as a PDF. Problem solved. Copy and paste it back into your current version of pages on your computer. You can also send as word and open it in open office on your mac and other options. I don't think you need to say bad things about apple because of this. They offer options.

Oct 10, 2015 8:55 AM in response to ElizaDechby ladyhawke1003,I am also having this problem as I was writing on pages5 on my laptop and then tried to open the docs on my iMac. I decided to export to Word as you suggested and discovered that I could actually export the doc to pages9. This seems to work as I could then email it and open the docs on both computers. Annoying waste of time but the problem is surmountable. Thanks for the tip.

Nov 6, 2015 8:29 AM in response to Vivinne Williamsby cj2468,I've been through this and similar threads, and I'm still stuck. I (stupidly) moved some old Pages files from iCloud over to Dropbox (via the finder window, I just moved them over. Stupid, I know that now). I can't open them at all. When I try to open in Pages 5.6 it tells me it 'can't be opened for some reason'. When I try to open in Pages 4.3 it tells me the required index.xml file is missing. I tried using the cloud convert site to convert them to docs, but that doesn't work (Error: could not open file). Any suggestions? Or did I just completely screw myself? (FYI in case it's relevant, OS X 10.11.1)

Dec 12, 2015 10:17 AM in response to KBroughtonby derek SSI,Thank you very much for your suggested work around for the xml problem. It worked! The appearance of the onerous "xml file missing" message often seen absolutely random as does its disappearance. Fortunately I also had saved a docx version of the document that I have been working on for two years. This opened without a problem. Then I tried your method for Pages and it worked fine. That was yesterday. Today I went straight to my pages file icon on the desktop and it opened immediately. I have not done any updating in the meantime so the question is why did it not open yesterday but today? I am convinced something strange goes on in iCloud. I never had these issues before I decided to use the Cloud. The inability to open a file on my Mac sometimes occurs when I have saved a document on my iPad and sent it to myself as an attachment to an email. This whole issue is infuriating. I cannot understand why Apple has not been able to fix a problem that can be quite stressful to their customers.
