Q: wifi keeps dropping since Yosemite upgrade

Since upgrading to Yosemite, my previously-stable (with Mavericks) wifi connection keeps dropping. I have to click the wifi icon and re-select my network every minute or two. I have turned off bluetooth and uninstalled/reinstalled wifi and my networks. I have rebooted multiple times. No luck so far. It appears that others are having similar problems. Any solutions at this point?

Thank you gthorson! This seems to have helped my wifi connectivity issues with Yosemite. So far (and it is early days yet) wifi is back up to normal speed and it also seems to have stopped by printer randomly dropping offline.

I am having the same issue as is my neighbor who also has a Mac, we both recently installed yosemite. With over 111,000 views of this pace it seem about time apple starts paying attention. This issue is affecting my business!

It is so bad, I am actually seriously considering switching back to Windows 10 Laptop. I have also not been successfull in installing the bootcamp on my macbook pro 17 2011....

If this is no permanently fixed before the end of may, Instead of buying my next mbp, I will buy a windows 10 laptop... and save a few bucks. I bought a MBP because I did not want these headaches normally associated with windows... But If I pay a premium pice for mac, and I still have issues, then...

Apple, if you want to borrow my laptop to do troubleshooting, just let me know!

Since writing this I bit the bullet and bought an Airport Extreme router to replace the one provided by my ISP. Fingers-crossed, but everything seems to be working beautifully now with no drop-outs and continuous connection despite very heavy usage.

I am Newbie on Apple. And I simply dont understand the fuss about Apple products. This issue with loos of WIFI have hit me to. Though I bought my Macmini after the Yosemite release. To my very disappointment I had to spent a couple of hours to upgrade from Maverick which was preinstalled on the mini. And now suddenly no Wifi. And the photos app suddenly very private pictures shows up on the screen on the office. Stop either using my iphone camera professionally or stop take "FUNNY" pics. Stupid concept. and a thousand other peculiarities ex. Save files as name Need to steps first save and then name and place. A place which is nearly impossible to fin again except if you save it to desktop. Fotofiles without name in Photos app. My good!!!!

It took me getting an engineer involved now, at Apple to confirm there is actually nothing wrong with my Wi-Fi after waking from sleep at home. They had me submit my log files and didn't find anything wrong with my software or hardware. They said because it is intermittent, and connects eventually within 10-15 seconds, that is within Apple's norms, which is 30 seconds. So this is solved for me! BTW, I am now on version 10.10.3.

This is an issue for me as well.  I bought 3 Macs and the primary is an older MacBook Pro (2011) which was the most expensive, highest space I could buy at the time from a store.  However, the internet connection drops intermittently, no more than 10 - 15 seconds.

Currently, I am looking to upgrade and happy to spend $5,000 USD on the primary machine but with an intermittently dropping wireless connection, this is out of the question.  PCs have become significantly more reliable and even Mac-like to the point they may be the right tool for the job.

Apple needs to sort this out.

I wasn't having the problem with Yosemite on my iMac (Version 10.10.3 / Mid 2011), but it has started daily now. I have to reboot to get a connection again and I hate rebooting. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite (Version 10.10.3 / Mid 2010) has had zero issues. Something changed with the 10.10.3 update specifically to my iMac. I have been and am using an Apple router. A real PITA.

My update is there is no update. Problem remains. Since 10.10.2 and now 10.10.3 wi-fi constantly dropping. Wi-fi bars remain black but cannot access the internet or email. Need to turn wi-fi off and back on or restart the computer. 0 problems with 10.10.1. How long will Apple be in denial about this major glitch in their OS???

I've had this problem for months. I finally found this thread this morning. I used the info from the link on the first page (to another apple forums thread) and it worked. I haven't had any connectivity issues all day.  Before doing this, I was losing wifi every couple of minutes.

Here's the post from the linked thread:

The good folks at the Apple Helpline gave me this solutions and it worked.

Open Finder > Choose Go From the menu at the top of the screen > Click on Computer > Double Click on Macintosh HD > Double Click on Library > Double Click on Preferences > Click once on the file called "SystemConfirguration" > CMD+DEL the file > Enter your password > restart.

    It worked like a charm

Hope it helps you guys out.
