Q: Intermittant failure to shut down

Just completing installation of 8 new late 2013 Mac Pro's and 2 late iMac's, and both suffer the same issue, intermittent failure to shut down. Both machines are running OSX 10.10.3, During shutdown sequence, machines begin to close desktop, Finder bar disappears, and machine stalls still showing desktop image, requiring a forced manual shutdown with power key. This seems to happen about 1 out of 8 to 10 shutdown sequences.

Any thoughts gladly welcomed. Thanks in advance..

Mac Pro (Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

I'm going to ask that post removed.

Use Etrecheck to find out if there are any memory resident programs that need to be quit.     File sharing can also be a problem if someone left something open.

Time Machine if used as a backup software may also interfere with shut down, and so might a Spotlight indexing that needs completion.

Lastly, don't force shut down via the power button.  This can damage the directory, and leave unclosed documents in a limbo state.

To read more about the directory, see this tip repair the directory.  If you aren't backing up your data, you should be already to a separate entity entirely.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

I know about this software scanner, but these are new machines, and have had little exposure to the internet to pick up adware or other baddies. I've made sure that all napping, and sleep switches are off, which has been a problem with all Mac's in the past. Thanks though for the response.

Don't use Time Machine, but thanks for the response. I'm guessing Apple is aware of the problem, since it seems to be across iMac's and new Mac Pro's. We didn't see this issue with Westmere machines running the same version OS.

Were all machine's systems imported from a common system image or setup? Was Migration Assistant used?

I don't see you posted output from Etrecheck, it might help, and just to make sure - at the request of someone else's ideas.

External drives on nMP have been an issue.

No. Each machine was built from scratch, with the same software bin, but all including the 2 iMac's exhibit the same intermittent problem of the Finder freezing at shutdown. On occasion the Finder menu bar disappears, but the Dock Tray is still functional. I've had to Recover one machine right out of the box, due to faulty permissions with external drives, and failure of the Mac search engine to work. Recovery seemed to correct those problems but still incomplete shutdowns continue. One suspicion is bad flash drives. (250G System Drives), but that doesn't answer the iMac shutdown issues.
