Q: Sudden grey desktop macbook air

My macbook air suddenly as a grey desktop screen and dont fucntion normally. The docks cant be opened. Safari cant be opened. It often gets stuck and the only way possible is to press and hold the power button to restart it. Please help

try to boot in single user mode
