Q: Can't get ringtones onto new iPhone 6

http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/

I got the new iPhone 6 on Friday (yay!). But... for some reason, I can't get my personalized ringtones off of iTunes and onto my phone. I was on the phone with tech support yesterday and they pretty much said it can't be done. But I don't really think he knew. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part. But... I created my own ringtones. They are psychically on my computer and do show up under "Tones" in iTunes. They are m4r files that worked fine on my iPhone 4S. So... why can't I get them onto my new phone? Does anyone else have an issue with this? Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Thank you so much!  Your instructions were really clear.  Only, instead of "finder", I looked out for "Windows Explorer".

Rarely does one find instructions when, if followed correctly, lead one to easy success.  Thank you WiseJD for creating the step by step process for creating ring tones.

Thank you for your help.  I am in the minority here I am sure, but why do I have to go thru 16 steps to make a song into a ringtone when the song is already on my iPhone 6?  This is incredibly frustrating.

Thanks for posting. I followed all the steps, changed the file extention to .m4r (My original file was mp3. I'm not sure if that has an effect on the outcome)

I opened Tones library to add the "song/ringtone" but it will not let me add it to iTunes/Tones library.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thank you

    THANK YOU,

After 45 minutes of struggling with this process, your post was something I could follow and it worked!

I just got this iPhone on Friday after having been a devoted Android user for many years.

This reminds me exactly of why I abandoned Apple products in the first place - something I could do with a simple touch on an Android took 45 minutes and a 15 step process on an iPhone. Ridiculous.

But thank you for at least making it POSSIBLE.

This is very confusing . . . . . 16 steps to create a personalized ringtone, unbelievable. Clearly my wife and I made a huge, gigantic mistake in purchasing our iPhone 6 cell phones. Previously I have had 2 droids over the last 4 years. With a ringtone maker app I could make ringtones all day long. 16 steps, sounds like Apple is saying, "We really don't want your business, but since you were fool enough to buy an iPhone 6, this is what you get. Ha, ha the jokes on you.

We spend a lot of money on the iPhone 6.

We spend a lot of money on buying music on iTunes (because we want to buy the music and it's the right thing to do!).

We get punished by not being able to just simply use a song as a ringtone.

Really Apple - What are you thinking? You are supposed to be the industry leader. Why do you want to make your customers unhappy? I really don't get why companies do this crap. In iTunes, I can even tell the song at what time to start play and what time to stop.

Why is this so hard to do? You already done the 'right thing' but then broke it when moving it to iPhone.

Come On, you really can do so much better. We know you can.

You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user support forum. The ability exists to create ringtones for the iPhone, it is just a little more involved than with other phones. Apple is more honest about copyright issues when it comes to using music, which creates some of the issues. If you would like to share thoughts with Apple about this, as it seems you would like to do, the forum is not where you do it. You do it on Apple's feedback page. http://www.apple.com/feedback

Thank you so much for your detailed, step-by-step explanation of how to create your own ringtones. It worked perfectly! I appreciate the effort you put into preparing the guide. It has certainly helped me loads.

You can do it on the iPhone with a ringtone maker app as well.

I followed the instructions from WiseJD perfectly. (Thank you for such wonderful detailed instructions! I even checked them off as I created the ringtone to be sure I didn't miss anything. I tried both a song that I downloaded from a CD, and one I bought from iTunes. Neither show up in my Tones. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can fix this problem?

After deleting the Tones folder and creating a new one WiseJD's instruction worked perfectly.

my tones were not in my library. I made sure they were all M4R files all tones are under 40 seconds and are all in my tones library for the itunes 9 version and for some reason only 6 songs will sync of the 10 i created I made sure to change all the names so there were no numbers or anything. time has nothing to do with it because i have 2 songs at the 40 sec mark that were able to sync. I get no pop ups or errors indicating why the other 4 songs from my tones will not transfer to my brand new iphone 6. Do you or anyone have any idea what could cause this to only accept 6 songs?
