I understand that you are experiencing an issue with Wi-Fi signal strength. I would need a little more information regarding the type of router being used, password protocol, router configuration and what type of protective case you are using if any to provide a better answer. However, the easiest explanation as your room is closer to the router, would be wireless interference.

If adjustments have been made to limit wireless interference, make sure your router firmware has been updated and see if you can adjust the settings as outlined below.

Jun 1, 2015 5:05 PM in response to jason269by Nathan Dickerson,The router is a dlink, my mum can manually switch my internet off and on from her computer (imac), i have a griffon protective case. If it was wireless interface my brothers ipad would be affected to wouldnt it?

Using another iOS device should not cause this issue. Do you know what model D-Link? This does make a difference. Routers can broadcast at different frequencies, are protocol and not all can broadcast the same distance. I would start with going through that second article that I included in my original reply to make sure it is setup with the optimized settings.
