Q: How can I see what computers are authorized?

Hi All,

How can I see what computers are authorized? I have 4 authorized and I know of only 2 of them. I don't want to DeAuthorize them all, as my daughter is away at college and her laptop is one of the 4. I have access to many computers as I'm a SysAdmin and I believe 2 of them are computers I know longer have.

Thanks,

Joe

Peter can not talk for Varjak but the difference is that it only shows the authorised devices that are up to date and using the iCould sync stuff.  I have Authorised my account on two iMacs, a MacBook and a PC, that PC is not being used now and so boxed up and as I kind of stopped using it a while back its iTunes is very out of date.  It does not show up in the list of Devices but does count towards the number of computers authorised in the number above.  However if you have not got your ID still in use on old systems, then yep its the same thing totaly.

Thanks Tina16!  This worked for me.  I was able to see what was authorized quite easily and then I was able to manage those authorizations.  2 items I no longer own - even though I had wiped them, there were still authorizations - forgot to de-authorize I guess before getting rid of them.

From what I understand from Apple authorized computers and associated devices are not the same thing.

    1. I have 4 computers that are AUTHORIZED to play content with my Apple ID.

I only know for certain what two of those computers are.

(I have 4 old computers in storage.)

    - Apple says I cannot find out what my authorized compters are through iTunes.

To get rid of those two unneeded authorizations,  I would have to deeaauthorize all my computers and reauthorize  the correct ones.

    2. Apple has a MANAGE DEVICES option in iTunes. That is for devices ASSOCIATED with automatic downloads in Apple ID.

That is not the same as authorized computers.

For instance I have 2 iPads associated with my Apple ID but only 2 computers.

    - IPads cannot be authorized as computers according to Apple.

    * So, my authorized computer number and the associated device list must be different.

The easiest what to do it is is just de-authorize all computers.  Deauthorize your computer using iTunes - Apple Support

This should really be moved up to be the correct answer. No need to deauthorize all computers.

Since I installed Windows 10, it doesn't recognize my same PC as "authorized" even though I only have 3 devices.  I've looked for solutions, but it sounds like I have to de-authorize and start over.  Anyone else have that happen with Windows 10?

Tina's answer does NOT answer the original question.

Authorization only applies to computer. Up to 5 computers can be authorized. Authorization allows you to download any iTunes purchases and play them on that computer.

Manage devices is associated with iTunes in the Cloud and includes computers, iPads and iPhones. Up to 10 devices can download purchases from iTunes in the Cloud.

Removing devices from iTunes in the Cloud does NOT deauthorize them. I just checked my iTunes account, saw I had 5 authorized computers (which did NOT include the new computer I was on). I also only had 4 computers in my managed devices. I removed one of the computers from the managed devices list and this had no effect on the number of authorized computers.

I tried adding the new computer under iTunes in the Cloud and could not. I was told I had 5 authorized.

I selected Deauthorize All and after getting confirmation that all were reauthorized, was able to authorize the new computer.

This is factually incorrect.  If you actually use your eyes, you will see that it uses the word "associated" not "authorized".  These words mean different things to Apple (hence the different spellings).  The OP wanted a list of "authorized" computers, not associated devices.

The list of authorized computers is hidden.  The OP is s.o.l., although there is the "de-authorize all" option.

If you think this process is broken contact Apple.  They won't help, but it might make you feel better.
